turbo cab quandry...
a freind with a TT equipped with: X50, Ruf exhaust and suspension, a short shifter, and 19" wheels was gracious enough to allow me an aggressive drive in his car today as i ponder (hard) the TT cab. this is the third one i drove. the first was a pig tt tip, the second was a stock 6 spd, and his was the third.
the second one seriously raised my heart beat purely because of the power, but seemed to have over boosted steering, felt heavy, had a very sloppy (stock) shifter, and exhibited noticeable turbo lag. so i was very anxious to try out a tt with most if not all of the above remedied. his steering felt so very much better with his 19" wheels (firmed it up considerably - and necessarily). the handling was much better and the car didn't seem to feel as heavy as the last (though his PSS9s set in the middle were still way too soft for me personally). the sound was quite pleasing and the short shifter was much better. that said, while the car just had unlimited amounts of grip, it just felt like it was doing everything for me whereas my 996 c2 seems more engaging of the driver. there is no such thing as throttle steer in the tt IMO as the AWD does it all for you. my car "feels" as though it accomplishes everything the tt does in the twisties, but it also communicates much better with me and i feel i'm more responsible for what transpires in the twisties than i am in a tt.
i'm going to go ahead and get the tt cab, lighten hell out of it, correct the suspension, exhaust, shifter, (and hopefully the overboosted steering) and hope it doesn't make me long for 2WD. if i wasn't totally sick of black exterior and grey interior though, i think i'd probably just supercharge my car. however, i'm not sure the power exhibited in the tt isn't too much for a rear wheel drive c2.
ps. the sport seats SUCK for lateral support. they don't feel ANY better than the stock seats IMO. anyone who drives these cars aggressively really should see how the other half lives - ie: GT3 seats.

ben - fwiw, i had a c2 cab and a tt at the same time. i couldn't get past the lack of power in the c2 cab, but every day of the week and twice on sundays i disliked the AWD on the tt. other than the droptop (of course), the only thing the c2 cab had going for it was the RWD, and it was goin' on, as you well know!
my ever-growing distaste for the AWD is one of the things that drove me to sell my tt.
my two pennies.
doody.

i've heard of quite a few people disabling their FWD in the TT. wonder if this would remedy that and allow a cake and eat it too type deal? of course PSM would probably be rendered dead which i really do love when street driving.

Ben,
Maybe another option is sell your '01 cab, and buy a newer one in a different color. Take the brakes, suspension, etc. off your old car and put it all on the new one. Then put a supercharger on it when one finally comes on the market.

Ben - if my cab would just come with the GT3 engine that would be the ultimate ticket for me - I too felt that my TT did everything for me and that had more bads than good in my mind.
I like the "flickyness" (so not a word!) of the c2 cab - but it is underpowered for me coming out of the TT - but I am having fun for now

i was oh so close to doing just that, but i truly do love the widebody's looks. besides, TPC's SC is vaporware so far. i've been hearing "next season", "next month", "two weeks', etc for well over a year now. best of both worlds i suppose will be the 997 which should be a widebody i believe. i may just "rough it" for a while in the tt cab and see what the 997 brings (2nd year of course so it doesn't blow up - hehe).

i've taken notes on your project - most specifically the weight reductions you've made. if you don't mind, i'd like to pick your brain on the suspension once i get an allocation. truth is though, i don't want to have to be at a much higher speed to experience the same amount of fun i currently do at lower speeds.

both those offers are absolutely impossible to pass up seperately, much less together! (fla or tenn would be great!)

Everyone wants to knock the awd!
Set the suspension up right and it will drift and slide with any 2wd, abeit at a much higher speed.
