lowering drivers seat?
lowering drivers seat?
I'm new on the site and have found a lot of great information, but can't seem to find any info on members lowering or "moving back" the driver's seat. Is it possible? Any kits sold to do it? I'm 6'4'' and love my 02 tt but would like a little more room. It has the sport seats. any suggestions?

Have you thought of aftermarket seats and adapters? I am using GT3 seats with Brey-Krause brackets and they work great. You can either use the adapters with sliders (moves the seat back about 2 inches and down an inch) so they are still fore-aft adjustable, or bolt the seats to the floor (gives about 2 inches more of leg and head room).
I am 6' 5" and have no problems.
The only problem with the GT3 seats is your a** will get sore and numb after 2-3 hours of constant driving. Otherwise they hold you in very well and are supportive. I also used thicker Recaro seat cushions for better thigh support.
Many others have tried different seats with good results. Do a little searching and I am sure you will find something to your liking. I don't think there are many options though for the stock seats which are supposed to be 5mm lower in the C4S and TT anyway.

As far as I could find, there really is no way to "fix" the sport seats . The problem isn't with the seat or the tracks, its that the door sill interferes with the seats moving any further back than they already can.
The only possible solution that I've found is to replace the sport seats with GT3 Style seats (OEM or knock-offs). I sat in an '02 TT (like ours) equipped with these seats just to see how I fit. The seat was pulled all the way back and I found a significant amount of room between the sill and the lower rear portion of the seat, about 3-4 inches. I suppose that one could set the tracks further back to take advantage of this additional clearance, but I haven't seen a kit for this. I also found that simply replacing the seats will not give you much, if any, more room in the leg department.
Using the GT3 seats has its drawbacks. Getting in and out of them is a real chore and they are really tight, so on a long trip in these would be torture. Quality seats are also expensive and if your car is equipped with electric seats and heaters I believe you'll loose that functionality. On the other hand, they'll keep you in position during hard driving (track, autocross, etc) much much better than any sport seat ever could.
One partial solution that I've found for more leg room is the installation of a GT3 center console elimination kit. Just ordered it so I really don't know how it will work out, but others seem to like it a lot.
And as a last resort, there's always amputation
Hope this helps. And if you do find a solution, please post it.
By-the-way, I'm also 6'4".

Thanks all! I heard the GT seats are a little tight in th A**. Alex, How do you like your HRE 593R's? Currently shopping for wheels.

Love the look of the wheels, bling factor is 100%. However, if you haven't already, I would definitely lower the car first. Even with stock wheels it makes the car look right/better/more aggressive.
I can't comment on performance much. They are 19s and I use the stock 18s on the track. The 19s will definitely stiffen the ride. Around town the ride can be crude, but in my case the suspension settings are the primary culprits there.
If I had one complaint it would be that the clear coat on the wheels is a bit "fine". It seems that just about anything will cause a scratch or a ding. I'm the only one that notices though, so I must be a bit ****.
