Quote: Have the mod on my 2002 996tt tip and sounds good no drone...maybe I should say the drone is not loud enough to be an issue...trust me I know drone...had Borla stingers on my C5 Zo6

Again OEM is to restrictive get a 70mm exhaust.

Stock exhaust weighs 50 pounds and is to small in diameter.

Upgrade exhaust like mine weighs 21 pounds and 70mm.

Just sharing here..
I have seen on the dyno a 2.5'' system catless make more HP /TQ then a 3'' with 200 cats on a 550hp rear wheel car..
Cats and design of the system are important ,,not just saying a 70mm system ..
Also stock piping is around is a little over 2 1/8 ''' diameter .
Just saying..

I'm all ears. I have an '04 x50 TT with stock pipes, and I want a bit more sound at acceleration. It's a cab, and I do get on the phone a bit (with a noise canceling bluetooth headset), so I don't want outrageously loud sound at a steady 80 mph, but during acceleration, I'd love increased sound volume and tone.

Ideas? I'm up in SF, CA.

agree with you.... one of the bottle neck are the collector at the header 40mm if ported (oem is 35mm) and with a after market header at 50mm......next are the exhaust diameter at the turbos...a lot of things come into play not only the muffler

Empyreal feel free to give me a call. Depends on what you want from it and if you have a decent fab guy around. I agree it's not the ideal way of getting a performance exhaust. The ones I have done for people were really because nothing out there was as quiet as modding the factory unit. Didn't even have anything to do with budget. It can be improved on as far as flow and I would say perform between stock and an average aftermarket 2.5 system while remaining stealth. Just about 15% more tone than factory.

A 200 cell Milltek is on the quiet side with a big gain over stock.
I thought it was 18% as measured ? LOL..

Does anyone know the actual weight of the original OEM muffler? I have searched all over for that and have come up empty?

So heavy it breaks the scales..
Find some one who sold or bought a used one and ask the shipping weight.

Excellent. Thanks for the info.

Background: I recently purchased the Turbo S. (LOVE it so far). But it came with a Race Precision aftermarket exhaust system. Generally, I don't mind the sound except for a fairly radical drone/resonance at about 2500 rpm. (Wife won't even ride in it)

I am thinking of reinstalling the OEM exhaust which I got with the car when I purchased it. Not sure if I can do this myself which is why I was asking about the weight. Also, the OEM muffler does have the drilled holes already done. So it will not be as quiet as the unmodified exhaust.

Sounds like a 2 person job in any case.
