Have you posted this on on Corvetteforum.com? I'll bet the responses there balance out the ones here. I came over a few year ago to the P-car world from a Vette but still browse their forums to stay in tune with my Corvette brethren.
They're both awesome performance cars. Take extended test drives of both, and repeat if you have to, and make your decision on which gives you more dirving passion.

I have heard rumors of v8 thinking...for now, the 997GT3 engine in a cayman is probably the hottest idea I have heard...but how hard is it to service that car?

I have read where the cayman will never be put in a position to surpass the 911.
God BLESS YOU for being an honest man...
I try to explain why I'm soooo biased against chevy corvettes after all the pain and agony I had in dealing with mine, but it seems to get lost in the translation... I get soooo upset when I hear guys talk about how great the C6 and the Z06 are and I just roll my eyes. The cheap, plastic, 80% completion of engineering... It "COULD" be a great car... But you peel back one layer and find all the warts... Nobody even mentioned the roofs flying off Z06s! These aren't targa tops gang, they're poor quality. It's that simple. What about the motor failures, the other items that have been reported time and again? What about all the 2005 C6 problems? Column lock failures, failed diffs? The list goes on and on... The pleather used in the Corvette is GARBAGE in comparison to BMW or Porsche... I loved the C5 VETTE I owned, but man it came at the cost of reworking everything to make it right.

So to me I have two COMPLETELY different experiences when I get in one car as opposed to the other. I drove a C6 and it didnt move me one bit, I didnt hate it, but I got nothing out of it, then I drove a C5 and loved it, it felt like a vette and not like every other GM vehicle.
I try to stay pretty neutral in my comments and wont try to make up stuff to cover for deficiencies, the facts are the facts. It's most of the dilusional people that think their cars are perfect.
