weve had two 996TTs and have many friends with others and havnt experienced this ourselves and neither have any of our friends. one of my boys up in long island had a gf and all her dad owns is chevys...they have so many f*ing prob with their z06 its not even funny. the car is fast and handles pretty well, but other than that it doesnt offer much...at least to me anyway. im glad you like your car but youll never find me in one. id rather have a viper, and im not such a fan of those either.

ive heard the exact opposite...while i will never drive a z06 bc i have no desire to...those I know who have driven them (and back to back) have said the z06 at speed gets to be downright scary. maybe it was fixed but this was even mentioned several times by mags.

There may be that many pop out issues over the life of the 996 TT but there have never been more problems with a single year of turbos. And there are several more problems to boot. This engine problems is a major epidemic in this car 07's built all the way up until last aug have had the problems. You cant deny the problems this car has, they are well documented. they may shovel some dirt on it over at CF, but that wont happen here.

dchesrown is infamous around these parts
I am no Vette fan boy either. I have owned a Porsche since my Freshman year in College.(1986) This is the first time in my life that there is not a Porsche in the stable. I might add a Gt3 when they come down to real world pricing.
The Vettes that had the roof issue were all fixed under recall.

Ricky-Just fly up and I will sell you the Z06 so you can track it with us. I will go get another.

I've read a bit about the 2nd gear issues but some people act as if it's a sure thing. When buying one of these cars is this the exception or the rule? (should I be planning for a trans rebuild if I buy a 996?)

I'm considering a speed yellow 02 with 31k miles for 62k.

I (being the key word here) have driven both and driven both pretty damn hard and the Z06 is more planted with ZERO vibration or wallowing at 150mph. Neither felt as good at 150 as the CaymanS however.....the 996TT and Z06 just got there faster...a good bit faster.

I have four local guys right by me that have '06 and '07 Z06s with anywhere from 6K-23K miles on them and NOT ONE has had ONE issue with their car.

I have heard the same concerning the Z06 at speed, from an avid street racer no less. I call b.s. on the 996 TT being shaky at speed, I take turn 9 at RA going 150+ and it doesnt even scare me, not the slightest bit of discomfort, I have not taken the turn in a Z06 but you cant improve on flawless.

So how about let's not argue a point that neither person can prove wrong or right, it's all guessing at this point.

It IS NOT a sure thing and I had mine tested when I bought it. I think the 996TT is pretty darn bullettproof. It would not deter me from buying one (if I was in the market for one).

Sounds like a great car.

If you are more of a Euro car guy then the Porsche would probably fit better for you. Just do yourself a favor and at least test drive a Z06. They aren't for everybody. If you are "image conscious" as many on here are and will just "feel better about yourself" with a Porsche badge on the hood then so be it.

I'm about having fun and trying different things. The Z06 is different for me and it is a helluva lot of fun. I'm sure I'll be in something else 18 months from now but thats just me.

There is nothing to guess about to me. I drove BOTH at 150 mph and the Z06 felt more stable and planted.

You are pretty regular at CF, what does Jim Bacus, Mike (Shorthrow), David Yu and Allegreto say about the Z at 150? Pretty damn pure is what they say. Look, the 996TT is not the track car for Porsche anyhow.

thats true...maybe we should compare the z06 to the GT3/RS or maybe a 996 GT2...i suspect there wont be anything to disagree with in any of those comparos.

That is not what the OP is interested in purchasing. I'm sure you just might be able to find another (or 8 million) threads around here somewhere comparing the two . To be honest, I'm tired of the Porsche vs Z06 comparisons. If I was going to do 25+ track days a year, I would be in a 997GT3.........oh, and if I didn't have to make my mortgage payment .

yea...there are plenty of threads on it, im sure...but for the sake of arguement, those are the cars we should REALLY be comparing.
