When I bought mine, I thought about the Z06...for like second. Get the Turbo, CPO'd.

I am new here, but here were my thoughts. I just sold my modded S4 (Audi). I have a 07 Yukon Denali that I drive daily. I also have a built 92 Mustang, 547 to the wheels, etc. I am starting to slowly look for a TT 03-04. I gave the vette some thought and could just not get away from the gold chain aspect of it. No matter how I twisted it. Ones a chevy and ones a frikin porsche. They dont even feel right in the same breath. I probably have 40-50 grand in that Mustang. Guess what it is fun and ridiculously fast, but it is still just a mustang. I grew up in So cal next to the beach and the only ones rolling vettes were covered in tanning oil from the other side of the hill. I have test drove some TT and the feeling is speechless. Maybe it sounds silly, but you feel like you have arrived in serious style and speed. Hope that didn't sound to cheesy... Now I need to get one!!

I currently own an '01 twin turbo and a '07 ZO6. If I had to choose one car, it would be the Twin Turbo. The steering, driving position, quality, interior and road feel is superior to ZO6. The ZO6 is a monster, but you cannot really appreciate the car unless you drive it hard. For an everyday driver, the TT is the better choice. Good luck!

I would agree. The turbo (especially with suspension mods) feels better... the interior is nicer, etc. The Z06 does it all though, and its cheap, and it's easy to mod (just lower it half an inch by turning four bolts and watch how much better it gets).

I have an 05 Turbo S and an 07 Z06.

Red face think about this!

you mentioned a turbo with 50k in a few years, can you imagine a vette with 50k after 5 or six years ahhh no. Anyway the porsche will still be just as strong in five years as it is the day you bought it, the fact of service withstanding.

Perhaps nascar v. alms wasn't the best analogy, but the intent was more in the manner in which the car makes you feel. The zo6 does not make you want to drive like a lunatic on back roads. It feels too wide. the pcar is great in those situations, yet the z06 is clearly the car to take to a drag race. perhaps the best way to decide if you have financial concerns at all is call both a porsche dealer and a chevy dealer and ask them how much it cost to, say, replace a clutch. If you can't afford to fix the pcar, don't buy it.

If you can lease the Z06 for $800-900, do it and then lease a GTI or something similar for your daily/winter car. That way you're not taking a beating on depreciation since you'll turn it in later. From here on out, I'm only leasing cars - I go through them too quickly to make buying worthwhile.

On a two year lease at $850 is 20k, I'd take my chances buying.

Bringing this one back as I've been racking my brain with the same question

Since I'll only be putting 10-15k down what keeps bothering me is the financing, as I havn't been able to find a good rate for an 01 or 02 so my payment for a $72k ZO6 (The new 07's still on the lot can be had for about 6k under sticker) will be the same as a $65k 996TT.

I know the 996 has allready taken the blunt of it's depreciation but what do you think will be worth more in 5 years, an 07 Z06 with 25k miles or an 01 996TT with 50k miles? That's not my only deciding factor, but definitely something I'm considering.

A Z06 in 5 years will be in the 30k range. The new model (C7) will come out and the prices will go in the gutter I would think the turbo would be in the high 30's low 40's as well.

Easy choice. I had an 01 996TT and traded it on a new 06 C6Z. Bad move. After replacing the roof and two motors, I moved on. Terrible experience. I just traded back into another 996 TT Cab. For about the same money as a new Z, you should be able to find a good deal on a low mile 03 and maybe even an 04.

Momentum in Houston has an 02 996 TT for 59k.

I have a TON of experience in the Vette world, and My write-ups on parts broken are stuff of legend over on Corvetteforum... JUST YESTERDAY I rescued a buddy who'se 2005 C6 with 40K miles on it broke the drivetrain, probably the torque tube, and the day before that another friend of mine brought his 2002 Z06 W/32K miles on it over with a failed door switch problem that wouldn't allow him to roll the windows up or down...

GM build quality issues are well documented... Buy chevy, get chevy quality control or lack there of...

The other comments about the C6 taking a dive in value are pretty spot on. GM has suffered this time and again... What I laugh at is all the comments about the corvette being the "Greatest sportscar ever made, FOR THE MONEY." Yugo was the greatest commuter ****box ever made... In Yugoslavia... Won't be buying either one anytime soon... You want a great car with great performance, great build quality and true exclussivity??? Buy the Porsche. You want a refreshed camaro? Buy the C6Z06.

WOODSTER- Post your impressions of the Zo6 compared to your TT after your spin!
My 2001 was bought already modded for $71K. It's rolling the Dyno at 510WHP and 532#ft. of torque. I'm smoking pretty much every Vette and Viper in my area that hasn't been seriously breathed on... And I have AWD, and of course, everything that is Porsche... When I go out for a drive, I simply don't see Porsches. I see vettes everywhere... My driving takes me from my home in Central Va. up to Washington DC and down to Richmond Va... I am lucky if I see 3 porsches per month... I'm lucky if I DON'T see more than 3 Vettes per drive... If you want to own a "supercar", then buy the porsche and be treated... Otherwise, welcome to the "corvette Corral"... WOOOOHOOO!
