VA: $60 in hazmat for an oil change?

I had hoped to change my own oil, but since the car was at the dealership anyway, I just had them do it...

$180 - 1.5 hours of labor (okay, I'll accept the dealer premium, for the sake of argument)
$30 in misc parts (filters)
$60 in oil
$60 in hazmat fees (oil disposal, I assume...)

$60 for hazmat fees?

I assumed I'd be out for $200-ish, not $330... Does the hazmat fee seem excessive to anyone else? Think I might give them a call tomorrow...

In my opinion best way to go about this is to buy your parts and pay some shop labor to do this. I am getting a service done shortly and I bought a case of Mobil One synthetic for about $60 and OEM oil filter about $10 and I assume labor should be about $50 to get an oil change with right parts.

I've been it that way since I've had my car.. so cheap I change my oil pretty often

Yeah, I definitely wanted to do it myself (and thought you guys might have the facilities )... I figured it was already at the dealer, though, might as well take advantage. Oops :/

doing it at the stealer is never an advantage if you can do it yourself...

they replaced something, a $100 part.. the bill was $800+.. $650+ was labor.. wtf

Service Departments are always the most profitable part of the dealerships.

It's a rip. What hazardous material? Ask them. Quicky oil-change
businesses don't have such a charge. The old oil is recyclable.

Dude, My lift will be powered and ready for operation come October... Buy your filters and oil, come down, Shoot the breeze, change your oil, DONE...

I've had this lift for 5 years, and finally got the new garage squared away enough to get the lift stood up and ready for operation... Just gotta get the power run to the meter base, and finish painting/installing new cabinets/ cleaning the place up!~

Hey Mike that sounds like a good idea. May be some of the N. Va./MD turbos could come down and make a day of it.

That's funny, I take my used oil to HSS and they pay me for it. I think it is a dollar a gallon.

You are my hero BTW, always saw your posts about the GTGs you guys have down there, but I always seemed to be busy. Let us know next time you do one, I'll do my best to make it down!

Anyway, I'll call the dealer tomorrow to gripe.. slipped my mind today.

Soon as we get power to the lift and the rest of the 'stuff" tidy'ed up we can plan one for October/November timeframe.
