Need a new battery

I need a new battery for my 2003 996. What type of battery would you recommend? Should I use a Porsche battery or a after market one?

Battery is a Battery... Porsche OEM Battery arent that great... just go with a Aftermarket Battery GROUP 48<<< one size smaller and lighter... Aftermarket battery usually come with a 4-5 years warranty...

Stick with a Porsche battery...

They aren't the best but using an aftermarket battery raises red flags with potential buyers in the future. It leaves people thinking, what else did this owner scrimp on? A battery maintainer is a must but if that's the original battery, it's lived a good life...

Autozone, Duralast 48-DL battery, 2 year replacement waranty, 7 year regular waranty, for $59.99 with trade-in of old battery.

Too bad you're not local... Local distributor here delivers and I've installed these for those who have purchased through them....

My car doesn't see as much use as I would like it to so I keep the charger on it whenever not in use ... it's ready to go whenever I am.

Smile

I installed an Optima 75/35 red top this weekend. The battery fits easily into the factory opening. It is quite a bit smaller than the stock monster and feels a lot lighter. In the end I choose the Optima because I like the idea of a sealed battery with no required maintance or risk of acid leakage. I am ordering the Euro adapter from Optima so I can secure it with the factory clamp. We will see how well this battery holds up.

Thanks again for all the input.

Does anybody have an Optima battery instaled in a 996? I called Optima customer service and they told me they don't have an application for a Porsche 996.

I fu*ked around with a replacement battery that didn't fit and ended up getting the OEM battery that belongs there.
My original battery lasted 44,000 miles in S Florida.

I just put a Optima 75/35 red top in my 996. It is quite a bit shorter than the OEM but fits into the compartment quite well. I ordered a set of Din adapters from Optima which they shipped out for free. The wings attach to the bottom and make it longer so it will fit the hold down clamp. If this does not work I will make a simple plate adapter Ive seen posted in another battery thread to mount to the bottom. This does not seem like a very big deal. I will post a final result once I get the adapter.
