My first 911- Upgrades?

Hello Gentlemen,

I have been reading the forum for a few days now and really enjoy it. I just bought my first 911 C2 Cab a 2000 with 45k miles on it off ebay. Im 31 and really look forward to receiving it.

Is there anything that needs to be done to it? I know it sound ridiculous as people buy a 911 to upgrade from other cars.

ANy nice DIY stuff that you can link me to?

. What i am planning on doing is adding some spacers 15mm @ all fours.
. Perhaps an exhaust bypass for the growl
. Perhaps a K&N FIPK with a AEM dry filter at the end

Any help is greatly appreciated and i look forward to becomming a contributing member to the board.

V.

Congrats!

An exhaust bypass will probably be too loud (especially on a cab). I would lean more toward a nice exhaust upgrade . If you want to increase the sound further you can upgrade to 200 cell cat's and upgrade the headers. For the intake, I'd lean more toward EVOMS rather than K&N. EVOMS' materials has a better quality look & feel vs.K&N. If you do the exhaust and intake consider a chip upgrade in order to take advantage of these mods. Also the RSS Plenum would be a nice addition at this point.

A short shift kit is highly recommended.

Good luck and happy modding!

that's not up to us, that's up to you.

drive it around and see what YOU feel needs improvement, it is after all your car.
the last thing you want to do is do mods just for the sake of doing mods

To the OP, we are on the same boat. I just got my '99 Cab, 36k miles. I had it shipped over from SF, CA. I haven't had the chance to introduce myself on the boards yet, nor posted any pics of my car, but I will be doing that soon.

Anyway, in addition to 6speed, I also joined renntech & rennlist forums to get to know more about my car. I thought it would be good to share my plans to a fellow newbie.

Wheels - I am about to order OZ Ultraleggeras in black, 8.5x19 49mm F, 10x19 52mm R with Hankook Ventus Evo12 from Tire Rack.

I am also upgrading my audio system. There is already a McIntosh 4-channel amp installed by PO. I haven't checked what kind of aftermarket speakers are there, if there is. If they are not something I like, I will be changing them to Morels. As for subwoofer, I am having a custom enclosure on the left side of the passenger footwell with a couple of shallow-mount 6.5" subs powered by another amp.

Exhaust, Bilstein or H&R coilovers, K&N or Evoms intake, SSK are next. Then software.

Body kits......maybe.

Anyway, welcome & happy modding!

Welcome! If you haven't already done so, check out the detailing section of the forum, both Moe (Glistening Perfection) and Phil (Detailers Domain) will point you in the right direction in getting your car sparkling, and maintaining it. I have a 2000 996, as well, and did not take good care of the paint; I recently picked up clay bar, polisher and wax and detailed the crap out of the car; my car never looked better.

To get your feet wet, start with clear side markers and an amberectomy...if you are crazy like the rest of us here, you will not stop with one mod...suspension, wheels, exhaust, interior will all follow; you'll get the bug. Happy modding!

The evo did not fit perfect on my 2000 CAb. 911, the part says for 996/997 but for the 996 you have to bend a bracket on the lower left inside the engine compartment or the CAI will rub on one of the belts so I went back to stock, I have a K/N that came in a box with my car, put it up for sale here but I might just install it and try it, but I will get an AEM filter, I will let you know the results. The schnell intake was easy and I ran that then sold it when I got the EVO.

With that said

Clear side markers are a great and cheap mod, I have custom wheels and a set of 19 inch sport designs for the winter which also looks great. If you want to do wheels I run 11x19 on the rear with 315/25/19 and I have a 2000 Cab. and the large tire and wheel looks great on the rear.

I agree. Unless it has the factory sports exhaust option, because that one sounds better than any aftermarket IMO.

IMO. Spend money on an upgraded IMS it is clearly a weakness in this car. When I looked at the stock unit compared to the upgrade I couldn't believe the difference. I would be awfully sad to have car with $7000 invested in upgrades and need $12000 to replace a motor because I didn't spend a grand to update an apparent weakness. To me it was cheap for the peace of mind. Then do the sidemarker lights!
