Leather Restoration

So I finally got around to looking at my car's interior. It's a 2000 C2 cab with black leather and was desperately in need of some TLC.

First up was leather restoration. It was dried out (top left down outside a lot), scratched (kids!) and generally looked like cr@p.

I used the kit from Leather World Technologies http://www.leatherworldtech.com. Reasonably cheap, comes with everything you need and it's easy - You clean, scruff, sand, fill, stain, stain, stain, stain, buff and polish. All simple if you are patient and don't rush.

The results are really good. I used the matt finsih, and if I did it again I may pick the semi-gloss but it really does make the car look new again.

I attached some pics - left (before), middle (during), right (after).

Cheers, Alan

I'm also doing some trim painting (standard black to arctic silver) - will post that once it's done.

Looks great, Do you have the sku number of the leather kit? Went on their site and they have a huge selection.

Cheers

SKU was "DLRK", it was $59.95. Color code for me (black on a 2000 996) was 917.
I didn't end up using the adhesive/patch as I didn't have any big holes/tears, just scratches and scuffs.

I'd recommend getting an extra sponge if you are doing a lot (i.e. the seats) as it gets a little crusty after the first couple of coats.

it's a very different product. that lexol looks like it is a cleaner. this kit does a little cleaning but you are really recoloring the leather, which is why it ends up looking like new.

i guess it depends on the state of your leather. as a 12 year old cabriolet, parked outside most of the time and often with the top down, mine was faded, cracked, scuffed and scratched. no amount of cleaning was ever going to make it like new.

from the look of your avatar pic your car looks like it's in good condition on the outside, so maybe the lexol is going to be a better match for you?

cheers, alan

Thanks for the note, my interior is very decent, although still a 10 year old car and try to bring it a little bit more to life could be a good idea. I was looking into Lenox product but I haven't decided yet. The only concern I have is that I wanted to be as natural as possible. Perhaps I'll give this product a chance and make sure a wiped and clean it properly.

Looks Great! Just ordered leather seat covers. This would be great for touching up the door panels, etc.
