Think I am going to tackle mine this week. I just purchased a DAC
. Now looking at Mini-Ipad options. I have a full JL Audio system, 5 channel amp, evolution interior speakers and 8" JL Subs.

I currently have a Kenwood DNX7100 which is pretty good, has 3 RCA Outputs, iPod and USB inputs and Garmin Nav. However it is several years old and the iPod feature doesn't work due to software issues and the Garmin Nav is impossible to update.
I was going to remove it totally and just use a Mini-iPad with the DAC Convertor, but I would like to run 3 RCA Outputs to my 5 Channel JL Amp and don't want to buy 3 of the DAC's.

Option 1 is just use RCA splitter cables to run to all the amps inputs (the sub channel is mono, you only need to run one side into it).
Better option is to use something like the , which will take the high impedance signal from the iStreamer and separate it out to up to six channels. It also has an optional ' so you don't have to try and use the ipad itself as a master volume control...
You can disassemble the remote volume as well as change ***** to give it a much more custom appearance.
Though splitters like these will probably work fine if you have enough gain on your amp...

My favorite in-car iPad apps...
Waze: alone with jailbreak/activator to turn it on and off with the car is worth doing the mod for. TIP: The latest version of Waze no longer allows you to turn off 'auto-routing' on the iDevice itself. It drove me nuts that almost every time I'd get in the car and start driving, it would say 'are you going home', 'are you going to work', etc. Well, it turns out that while it is no longer possible to disable this feature on the iphone or ipad, you CAN disable it by logging into Waze on the web! Log in and uncheck "Allow auto-suggestions for destinations"!
Streaming music: I prefer pandora with unlimited skips/no commercials cydia hack. Also use Slacker and iTunes radio on occasion...
Calendar: Shared icloud calendars gives me my my personal, family, and business schedules automatically synced up and easily viewable. Mostly read-only, i don't usually enter appointments through the ipad, but it's great to see what time things are set for.
Maps: Either Apple's built-in or google maps are great for finding the nearest (whatever). Porsche dealer, lumber yard, apple store,
Evernote: To do lists, contact information, lists of addresses (which then transfer effortlessly to google maps or Waze), etc. Again, mostly read only
Google Search: Voice activated search, for anything you want on the web.
Skype: I don't use this often, as I almost always have my iPhone in my pocket which interfaces with the bluetooth on my head unit, but if you forget your phone, or the batteries dead, or you want to make an international call, Skype works great for making calls! I use it in audio-only mode as the camera isn't really positioned well for video calls...
Harry's Lap Timer: Most useful on the track, but it also has many functions which are useful off track... Its a great, inexpensive app, and Harry seems to never stop adding new cool features to it...
Starbucks: What can I say, I like coffee! Good locater for stores, better than maps or google because it allows you to filter out starbucks in Grocery Stores and even search for drive-throughs (though I rarely do starbucks drive through in the Porsche)
Vehicle Locator: I don't want to go into too much detail on this on a public forum, but I think I'd have a significantly better than average chance of finding/recovering my car if it was ever stolen. Not too hard to figure out how to do if you want to give it a try in your car...
OBDC Diagnostics: With an OBD extension cable, an ELM bluetooth dongle, and ROQY BT software, I have a full OBDII diagnostics system built in to my car.
On-Board service manual and owners Manual: Having a PDF copy of the service manual either downloaded to the iPad, or even better, stored on a cloud drive that the iPad is connected to, I can have emergency access to all the factory service docs anywhere...

keeping stock radio and bose system
this is a great install, saw that one person used a Socshe IPFMRDS and kept his original radio and bose speaker system. In searching the web for one, this unit is listed for an ipod. Is all thats neeeded is an adaptor from ipod to ipad connector for this to work? thanks for awesome information

Check out my install. I installed mine as an iPod. It's perfectly integrated. Goes to sleep when you turn off the ignition and auto unlocks when it get power again. I did that with Jailbroken app activator. The music stops and starts with power as stock.

Hey Krazy,
Oh my. Have I been looking through the web for alias CARI and his iPad install.
Lo and behold, months later, I stumbled across his great work on a german site. Have a look, and use google translate if you don't speak german. In any case, the pictures speak for themselves.
I'm probably doing the same setup, slightly modified, creating a CAD and printing the whole mold in 3D rather than using fibreglass. But we'll see. If you want to share ideas and bash problems around, just write me...
