depends on whether plugs are needed. if so, it'll be around $700. If not, $500 usually does it. I'd do it myself since it's not hard to learn. Set aside $100 for parts and another 100 for parts and tools including ramps. DYI at renntech.org guides you step by step.

from what ive been reading, the SA's can be a real pain the **** if you dont do the recommended service from the dealer. They will be less willing to do goodwill services and more likely to blame improper maintence of the vehicle. Those bastards

Why $500 bucks for a 15k service, that sounds more like a 30k without plugs.

As I recall from my boxster which should be identical,(I'm coming up on the 15k service next month my self on the 996), it was about $250 with new wiper blades(using my PCA %10 off parts).

It was an oil change and some inspection/adjustment of things.

Dealer here in Charlotte wants $350-400 for 15K. I bought the oil for $50, bought the filter and removal tool for another $35 and did it myself. Downloaded the procedure with all the checkpoints. You do the math. If you need plugs at 15K, you ought to get them under warranty. They are good for 50-60K.

IN REGARDS TO THE PLUG ISSUE.YOU SHOULDN'T NEED THEM AT 15K(UNLESS AN UPGRADED CAR AND THEN I WOULD RECOMMEND CHECKING THEM).THE 02 AND LATER(IIRC,CHECK RECOMMENDED SERVICE INTERVALS)AND LATER 996 AND BOXSTERS DON'T GET PLUGS UNTIL 60K,EARLIER CARS GET THEM AT 30K.THE 996 TURBOS STILL GET THEM AT 30K.I HOPE THIS HELPS,AND IF I AM REMEMBERING SOMETHING WRONG LET ME KNOW,GENE.

My dealer has no problem w me servicing the car. As long as you have some evidence of service done, it shouldn't affect your warranty. Goodwill repair is BS. Dealers really don't shell out $1k of repair/parts out of their pocket. Why would they? They just tell you this when in fact they still get the money from Porsche so you thank them profusely for it. It's a service gimmick and a lie IMO.

Today my dealer quoted me $800 for 15k service, plus a "brake flush" that they do for $300. Am I getting screwed?

Brake flush is generally done at 30K unless you've been on the track. The dealer is taking advantage of you. 15K should only be $300-350. I just paid $600 for the 30K including brake system flush.
And another thing, I wish to retract my earlier statement about plugs lasting to 50-60K. Jim Pasha in the latest Excellence mag suggests earlier changes because of plug erosion due to some gas mixtures.

i just had my 15k done. it was $450. they tried to sell me on some upgrades (a/c deodorant, $150 and fuel injection cleaning, $180). I passed on both.

i was near the end of my warranty, so I thought it best to kick out the money and have complete once over on the car. I can do oil changes, etc...but I can't check fault codes.

turned out to be money well spent. the dealer caught an rms leak and fixed it for me. gotta give the dealer props on that one. they also pointed out my painfully bald rear tires which i never noticed because they're wearing from the inside to the middle.
