PSE in LA area
I'm strongly considering purchasing a PSE for my '02 996. However, I've never heard one. I've noticed several members have one on their cars and swear by this exhaust. I was wondering if someone might be available this weekend or the next so I can hear it. Name the time and place and I'll be there. Thanks much.

Yeah, definitely listen to one before you take the plunge. I did but decided not to do it because I use the car for lots of highway and conference calls. I'm fine with the stock noise level.
Here is my thought on 3.6L PSE (3.4L is different IMO and I'd get PSE on 3.4L in an eye blink):
The best I can describe is that when PSE is opened it sounds like an engine revving 1k rpm higher than a stock exhaust. The sound is louder but same tone. You know how stock exhaust is pretty quiet when under 2k rpm, well, it'll be loud all the time with the PSE in open mode.
There is also a way to make a bypass pipe in the existing exhaust that is similar to PSE. It'll cost about $100 at a muffler shop. That's an alternative too.
Hope you find someone to share their ride with you so you can listen. If not, you have my impression...

djantlive, have to completely disagree with you there.
If you install the full PSE it comes with a button to switch it off so any additional noise can be cut.
As for it sounding "like an engine revving 1k rpm higher than a stock exhaust" - I don't understand what you are talking about. I have PSE as a factory option (on a 3.6) and it has a deep throaty burbling sound, and if I switch it off and rev 1K more.....it sounds nothing like PSE. I think you had a bad experience/demo.......
Onetime - go hear one!! Where are you? There are normally people happy to let you hear it, so shout out. I'm in NJ and will happily let you hear it for real if you are local!

For Pete's sake

Agency power, B&B, cargraphic, dansk, evo ms, fabspeed, gruppe m, gemballa, ghl, hamann, PSE, techart, schnell, zero tek, JIC, jubily, kreis sieg, eisenhaus, supersprint. i think i mentioned mostly all, but may have missed some, but that gives you an idea of vitually unlimited your choices are. i have highlighted ones that i find to be worth buying. no offense as these are my PERSONAL choices. hope this helps. i will be posting my gemballa sound clip soon, but as i said, the 997S tubi sounds exactly the same and it was recently posted in the 997S section.

I LOVE IT, i cannot say that enough. it sounds exactly like the tubi on a 997S. fabspeeds are quite loud from my understanding. supersprint is going to be prob like gemballa or tubi sounding. agency power is only $695 shipped from vivid racing, and is sounds goooooood. also PSE is a very well known fav for everyone. it gives you the ability to switch on and off if need or would like to do so, BUT it gives no performance AT ALL, and i think someone said its actually heavier than the stock exhaust. there are so many companies who have exhausts for 996's.

Livenup,
I am actually in Upland, but for some odd reason I still consider myself as being in LA. If you are ever out and about on a weekend I will travel. There's no place to far in a P car

I'll be at Buttonwillow tomorrow. I know this is a last minute notice, (I didn't decide to go until today) but come out if you can. I'm on the waiting list for Saturday and Sunday so feel free to send me a PM if you're not able to come out Friday but want to try Sat or Sun. I'm in a silver 996.
