It would be close, I have raced a couple m3s, from a stop and from rolls and none have pulled on me, and this was before i got the gemballa exhaust(not like that matter much anyway). ive only used electronic meters for 1/4 mile and so on and know i could wring out low 13s on a drag strip.

 

For that matter, C4S coupes, they are the heaviest 911, and yet run 12.8-13.0@108-109 mph, with less hp than an m3 and prob more weight and can take them down from my experiences any day any time.

 

I have never heard of a stock 12 secondish C4
If you want a fast car and try to brag about it..get out of a C4 in first place.
A chipped M3 with exhaust is in the 12s, so...a 50K car vs 100K car??hmmmm

STOCK! do u want me to find mag times also. i highly doubt an m3 with chip and exhaust pulls off .5+ sec on the 1/4. that engine is so tuned going with headers, exhaust, cams, chip, intake and gears will prob get u into 12s, except for the one stock car that ran 12.7@like 105 from the factory and by that trap shows its still a mid 13 sec car. have you run your car at a track yet?

 

Yeah and to 99 Percent of the population the 99-01 Carreras non-gt's look like boxster, so what's your point? I don't wear my Patek Philippe so other can know how special it is, if I wanted to, I would get a cheaper Rolex.

I couldn't afford a Base Model Porsche, are you kidding me? That comment just shows your ignornace and your stuck up attitude. Why would I buy a slower car for a few more grand? I love how the M3 performs and feels, it like fluid, everything just flows. Looks thats your opinion, I personally think a Carrera with an Aero Kit is more of a comparison.

Well I wasn't speaking on the whole community, but the first page would indicate people speaking as if it's a downgrade. How is that? Also theres another thread, where again there was some people just straight bashing the car. I'm not saying everybody is hating, but some people just can't get off their high crest.

Don't get me wrong I love Porsches, my dad is a Porsche collector. Does he have a Pre 02 Base Carrera, no.

I am a BMW man, I love them, will I have everysingle M3, you beat your *** I will.

Don't get me wrong I love the way the Carrera drives, it is more Raw than the M3, and it's overall driving capabilities are similiar. But at the end of the day I couldn't live with that interior and the boxster headlights.

Also I think in stock form it doesn't look as nice, and I couldn't justify buying a car with less or similiar performance of an M3 and I have to add 10k+ to make it look better. The M3 on the other hand is one of the best looking cars stock, just like the TT, you don't have to do nothing to make them look better, just lower them and put rims on.

This is a bad start for me on this forum, but I felt I had to stick up for the M3, cause some people aren't giving credit, when credit is due.

 

You know what tho man, i feel the same about the m3, i cannot live with a 3 series interior or the other man aspects of the m3 still obvious on the m3. so it goes both ways. i happen to love the interior of my 911 and i like the headlights too.

 

I own m3. I love m3. I usually track my car in HPDE 4 (Advanced class). So when I say I like the performance of it, I mean it.

I have a friend who has 997 S. I dont think my car isn't as good as 997S. but compared to 996 Carrera. I think it would be a good comparison. Used 996 and used E46 M3 are about the same price range. Both have similar HP. 996 is faster on 1/4miles, probably handles better.

I guess it all comes down to personal preference. Life style, driving behavior, demographic....etc.. I thought about getting a porsche too but not yet. Porsche is my dream car, when I buy a porsche, I want to order it. But I only can afford used one right now.

anyway, i dont know what's my point. lol but both cars are good. I dont think people should be arguing over which car is faster or not. It really is a driver's race (at least on the track). It'll be hard to see the difference by a laptime if you drive both cars.

 

ON no, this has gotten to the interior isses, reminds me of a TT Vs Z06 pissing match.
The 996 interior does not hold a candle to my M interior btw..thats the truth.
Normal 3 series interior is not like M interior btw.

 

i love the e36/e46 m3's looks but can't say the same for the next gen m3. i HATE the design language bangle is creating. i wish the new m5 looked better as i would buy it as my next GT cruiser but it is so ugly. the 6 series is alright but the new 3 is just not right.
