RMS Issue on 997TT ?
Hello Guys,
Took my (already bought it) 997TT to a independent shop for a PPI yesterday and it showed a slight seep of oil from RMS, internal shaft cover and Driver side cam cover according to the shop. Then techs at porsche put the car on the lift and took a look at it. But they did not think that's oil seepage . I was there too, it's looked like there is some black stuff and slightly wet, no drips.
They said if it's RMS leak, they will get on it and make some good bucks from porsche because it's still under warranty. They told me not to worry about it, and the car will be getting the certified warranty tomorrow too.
Anyway, just checking to see if any of you guys had a leaking rms before. How did it looked like?
Thanks alot!

I have the same issue with mine since I bought it new a year ago. My is a 2009. It drips about a drop of oil a week. Took in last month and they said they fixed it, but I think is still there. I'm planning to go take in after the holidays. Let me know what you find out.
Mine's not had anything in 2 years and 17,500 miles. And I haven't heard of almost any engine issues on the 997.1 Turbo at all.
Out of curiousity how many miles do you have on yours?
I was told by my OPC that 997.1 cars health is often a direct relationship to how often they are driven. The more regularly you drive them (on longer rather than shorter journeys) the healthier they are.

I think you're right. Mine has 3000 miles and I drive it to work half the time. I really drive the car short distances. The oil issue has come up when the car sits for a week or longer. The car has never had any issues and the only service I've done has been oil change and yearly service.
My vague memory of understanding the RMS problem on the m96 is misaligned concentricity between the crank carrier and the crank case which causes the crank to run on one side of the seal and cannot be 'fixed' as a replacement seal would simply wear the same. Our 997.1tt engines do not share that seemingly flawed architecture, therefore a seal failure would just be a bad seal and simply replaced.
I am sure there are experts out there who can add or refute the above, but I wouldn't be too concerned by a drop a week.

can't have RMS on the 996 or 997 turbo's and they got rid of the whole issues on all engines for 2009 and forward.
you have something else.

Ummm, no. RMS leaks, while uncommon, have happened on the 996TT. Haven't heard of them on the 997TTs yet. Do a search, and you'll find those on the 996TT forum who had the problem.
