Powder Coating Wheels Durability

I am thinking about having my track wheels powder coated ( probably a satin finish in Black ) and want to know about durability. My main concern is the rubbing that occurs while they are on my tire rack on my trailer. I can put something like carpet or rubber between them but I'm still concerned that the powder coat will rub off. Has anyone experienced this or have any recommendations on how to keep this from happening. Thanks for any help or advice.

Like vpmick, I am also curious about powder coating. I would like a nice satin black and wasn't sure if I should powder coat my stock 19's on my 997TT or go with a brandy new set of HRE P40's with some new rubber! I got a quote for around $200/wheel out here on the east coast for powder coating. Is it worth it or should I put the funds towards new wheels?

....to powder coat or not to powder coat......

been a year and 3 months, and just 5000 miles or so, but they are spotless.
I pressure wash them with no issue. However I am careful and avoid using any wheel cleaners.
Matte black..

My little pocket rocket has the same, it was the test mule. Six months more, and an everyday car.

To be honest its all about craftsmanship. Who does it, do they bake it, how hot etc...
But the result is good. I love my black wheels...

Oh and please take the extra step and do the center cap properly. It drives me crazy when they dont. Here is a relevant post I wrote HERE

dianic: very nice. What did they charge you to powder coat each wheel may I ask? I know you're in Greece but I'm curious. Looks great

number3: is that a powder coat? can't tell from the pic. can you attach a larger one? thanks

Re: Powder coating wheels: I am aware of some wheel co.s avoiding powder coating, as they have concerns about temperatures adversely effecting specific alloys (it seems not all 6061-t6 blanks are the same). OTH, hard anodizing seems not to be a concern. In fairness, quality powder coating, properly done, does seem safe and effective. YMMV.

Thanks to all for the input. Anyone have a good trick to keep tires from rubbing against each other on trailer tire rack?

Powder coating is an excellent finish for aluminum surfaces. It is very durable and highly resistant to corrosion.
With forgings, the powder coating heat cure process should always be done by a professional facility that has experience in coating forged alloys.
To much heat for too long a time and you will reduce the strength and the Brinell harness of the alloy. NOT GOOD! 300 degrees for 30 minutes is all we recommend.
