997TT MK.1 PCM 3 conversion DONE :)
Hey Monster1,
A fellow UK (new) member here and i'm well impressed with your efforts! (and the guys beforehand who had the ***** to have a go)
Do you reckon this could be done with the ability to revert back to factory without splicing wires sockets etc?
I've got a 2007 997tt with Bose and I'd love a go at this if it was something that could be reversed if needed.

Yes it could be reversed, especially if you did the conversion with that in mind! For example I initially used an interface loom i made up to go between my existing amplifier connector and the new amp, so i didn't have to re-pin the connector - once I proved it worked I re-pinned the connector as it was a tidier job - but you could leave that loom in and then reverting back is easy as you just remove the interface loom and your amp socket has remained the same.
generic looms
Every PORSCHE car wiring is different, from boxsters, to cayman to 911s and jeeps, from bose to non bose (ask amp), there is also options that varies from car to car then you have the PCM unit updates where wires may cross for some new option say aux for back up camera ,, sports chrono,, or even compass options... so to make a generic loom is ,, maybe,, not possible without looking at all the variables out there,,,, for example if you look at monster one loom he has a few wires for his system to work ,,, and i have a loom here with a ton of wires popping out of it ( SEE PAGE 17 ) and there are from the same model (997) so to make a loom for your car first you have to know the year and options that you have then you have to find the right systematic for your car and have a custom loom made for your car ,,,, may be this is why PORSCHE tells people its not possible because of the variables out there ,,,,, its not hard to do it yourself, you first have to understand the wiring system ,,, and if you have ever done an install of a head unit or radio in a normal car it's the same thing just follow the instruction,
red wire to red wire, brown wire to brown wire, and so on to there Perspective position, most important, you will need a PIN extractor tool to remove the pin and swap them where needed or paper clip sometime work hahaha
P.S., also all the interlocking plugs on the ASK AMPs (non bose ) are different, so u will need to get right your amp model of car before you start,, ..... there are brown, green, blue, black and white plugs amps out there, if you get the wrong AMP there will not mate together as one, so don't get the wrong amp for your car as the output speaker channeling and wattage will be different for your car .... just look at the colour of the AMP connector plug on your car and match it ....

My friend has piwis2 and he told me that he can get the wiring schematics, so that i can start within next week.
As my car doesnt have bose.
Can i buy any ask or do i need a specific one?
Where did you place it?

What country are you in Atomicfan?
I bought my amp off eBay from the US, its a Bose amplifier, Iandiman has bought an ASK amp like the one you need so he may be able to give you more info and part number for that one. If you scroll back a few pages you will see that he has included some pics of it - I believe also that the connector is different on the ASK amp to the BOSE one.
I placed mine in the space where the old nav and CDC4 unit used to sit. It requires unclipping the loom and re-routing it a little up to this position.
So monster your car didn't had bose amp prior to installation of pcm?
I believe that color of ASK plug means position of plastic tab that can be cutted so color no problem.
Any other amp can be used for, just need to give it to right hands.

Yes I had the old 997.1 Bose amp in my car originally, and changed it for the 997.2 amp.

I used a variety of implements to release the pins - from paper clips, tiny jewellers screwdrivers and tweezers even - different things on different connectors! It can be fiddly, but take a bit of time to understand how the pin is secured within the housing and then you will find the area to press to release the securing tab - or tabs! Some release easy, some types are a right pain!
