The journey continues!!!
The journey continues!!!
I'll try not to babble on to much.
Right in July I drove to FVD in Germany from the U.K. and had my car setup for stage 3 which was basically the addition of the 66mm turbos to what I already had on my car and also a software update. The car on the dyno with an ambient temp of 30*C managed 600hp and 898nm of torque. The car pulled very hard I must say but I did not get a chance to PBox it!
Unfortunately the car a month later ended up having a coolant leak which the technician and I luckily spotted as my car was having an MOT at Porsche at the time. We noticed streaks of dried coolant at the bottom of my engine and also the coolant was a good 1.5ltrs under so due to these issues the car was booked in.
Porsche dropped the engine out as there was nothing they could find without doing so. In the end the leak was due to 1 of the 3 plastic pipes that Sharkwerks do stainless replacements for! One of them was split.
So they were ordered and fitted but by this time I was in Cyprus on holiday for 2 weeks so Porsche sat back and waited for me to get back and decide what else I wanted to do with the engine.
I was interested to see what the other coolant connections were like on the coolant housings.
So 2 weeks past by and I arrived back in the U.K. The next day I headed straight to Porsche and instructed them to strip more of the parts around the engine to see what else needed changing and also to see what the coolant connections were like.
Luckily I did as some of the bonded connections were loose as you could pull some of them out with a firm tug.
While this was happening I had some time to ponder more about what I was thinking on holiday. Which was to rebuild the engine even though internally it was fine. I had 2 choices do I go 3.8ltr or 4.1ltr? Man I could not stop thinking about what to do but at the same time my car had been off the road 6 weeks by then.
I did the sums and checked the time scales in which conversion would be good enough for me. So in the end I have decided to go 3.8ltr with upgraded rods, oil pump and cams and to refresh all other parts needed. All work is to be carried out by FVD as for 1 they have built many engines and 2 they also give a 2 year guarantee which is great IMO. Who else offers this? apart from maybe Champion but they are a bit far for me.
So tomorrow I will drive to FVD with my engine which is loaded in the back of my X123d and set off on a 560mile journey from London to Freiburg. To stay over and have my engine rebuilt to 3.8ltr and have all my coolant connections cleaned and welded.
I cant wait and I thought I would start the story off and Share with you guys what has been happening and what is going to happen plus the end results
I will take some pics and the story will continue......
Thanks for reading.

Nice write up Nick, fvd is a class outfit. They've been doing cutting edge stuff since the 80s, with their 959 conversions. They're not in your face like a lot of tuners in the us market, so they tend to get lumped in with a lot of the Internet marketeers. The big three used to be Ruf, fvd and RS. These guys know Porsches, ESP turbos. ***** is a standup guy.

Over the past 4 years ***** and I have become good friends he is a sound guy to deal with and knows a hell of a lot especially being around for a good 28-29 years in the game. I would like to mention Rhonda who has been great too in talking to me endless amounts of times to discuss various things. Plus the other team members too.
Like you said bro they are good at what they do and get sucked into debates by the internet marketeers but when do you see them slagging anyone off? Never. The joke is FVD is probably more wealthy as a company than any P tuner out there!

Only for 997 turbo.
66mm turbos. I am staying in Germany. But I am only taking the engine block with me.

Nick, I have been wanting to hear the FVD exhaust on a 997TT. Now you may have motivated me to take a drive down there on Friday and see if I can hear it (unless they already have it apart by then). They are only about 1 1/2 to 2 hours away.
I am only taking the block my car is apart already at Porsche. I can still meet with at FVD but I'm hoping I will be gone by Friday. ***** has his own 997 turbo now so I'm sure it won't be long before that has an exhaust on it!

That would definitely make for an interesting drive!
Guys I'm here I arrived at 10.54am German time. I'm right now sat at Fvd and my engine is already on the stand.
I'm just discussing a few things with ***** now and then I will head to my hotel room as I have been up since 6.30am yesterday morning.
