Upgrade to Dectanes

hello all,

just wanted to share my recent upgrade..LED tails!

these are from FVD (thanks Rhonda)...what better than getting it from a company that is known to support their products and stand by it!

just a few observations..

general quality was good...alignment was a little ...meh.....but nothing a washer or two didn't fix.

no CEL's! hopefully it stays that way. i didn't install the extra resistor packs that were included in the package.

i believe that it really enhances and "updates" the look of the car. for those still on the fence, i say go for it...i think you won't regret it.

cheers everyone!

I hope they keep working without issue. I just emailed Rhonda regarding issues I'm having with Depo LEDs . Not sure if they came from FVD or not as they were in the car when I bought it and the previous owner didn't provide me with a receipt. Bottom line I'm having codes so I reached out to Rhonda's for possible help with a work around and her only solution was to buy another set. Somewhat disappointing response. I hope yours stay issue free, they do look great!

shipping is ground...so give and take 5 days.

Just installed a set of these 2 weeks ago. I installed both resistors and also removed the ones attached to the light housing and stuck them to the body of the car along with the second resistor. I have heard heat from the resistor is one of the problems so I was being proactive by relocating the main resistor.

I'm going to try relocating the resisters that came with the Depo fixture away from the housing as you have. The other two resistors you just installed, are they the in line type that DelRay shows in his system?

It's weird why they just don't step down the amps from the factory. It's a well known and documented issue. Why have your customers go through this step of adding resistors and figuring out where to place them to reduce heat damage and such.

For $800-1000 a pair, the QA is lacking.

thanks for the tip! i just relocated the resistors from the lamp housing to the car body...

i initially thought that there wasn't going to be suitable location to double-tape the resistor to the body as the lamp pretty much extends inside the space alloted for it....but i guess it does have a lot of clearance.

can you provide a picture of the wires you tapped into for the additional resistors you added?

Thank you
Kelly

hey kelly,

sorry i wasn't able to take photos.... but i didn't add any resistors...i just relocated the main resistors that were screwed at the back of the lamp housing and doublesided taped them to the car's metal body.

the lights came with additional resistors, but i haven't installed those.
