How To: 997C2S Strut/Spring Removal/Installation

997C2S Suspension/Strut Removal and Installation
I installed new PS10's on my C2S and had some friends ask me how I did it, so I thought I would post. It took my son and I about 1 hour per corner to do the job. It looks like a lot of work, but really wasn't too bad. Don't forget to use all the normal safety precautions when working while car is on jacks.
Note: Refer to photos while reviewing instructions.
Front
1. Remove ABS and Brake sensors using 10mm. Note orientation.
2. Remove brake line bracket bolt (10mm) from hub and brake line from caliper (10mm). Slip rubber cap on brake line so fluid won’t leak out.
3. Remove Steering knuckle (so strut can swing around). Use 18mm socket (may need T40 back-up; also may need to break loose with slight nudge from 5 lb sledge)
4. Remove lower front arm bolt at hub (turn strut to access). Use 21mm box, 18mm socket. Pull from hub arm but do not completely remove.
5. Remove stabilizer arm bolt (this will loosen strut for removal). Use 18mm socket (may need T40 back up or needle nose vice grip on ball joint side)
6. Remove upper strut bolts in trunk using 13mm socket.
7. Pull out strut
8. Support hub with wire (see photos)
Note: Remove suspension position sensor on left side only (small plastic arm) w/ 10 mm
To install, reverse of above
Don't forget to bleed the front brakes when you're all done

Rear
1. DO NOT remove brake lines
2. Remove rear lower control arm at ball joint (toe-in adjst arm). Use 18mm, may need T40 backup.
Ball joint may need to forced out with either a ball joint remover, or else a slight nudge with a 5lb sledge (but you MUST support mount from bottom with a piece of wood if you do this). Push arm down and back from hub. This arm needs to be removed at hub so that lower shock mount bolt can be removed.
DO NOT remove or mess with other end of arm (adsjt. end).
3. Remove upper rear control arm bolt using 16mm socket/18mm box (this lets hub drop down so you can remove strut). DO NOT remove other end at hub.
4. Remove bolt from lower front arm at hub (like #4 above).
5. Remove lower shock bolt using 18mm box and 16mm socket.
6. Remove stabilizer bolt from hub arm using 16mm socket (may need T30 backup).
7. Remove upper bolts, 15mm socket.
Note: Remove suspension position sensor on left side only (small plastic arm) w/ 10 mm
To install, reverse of above

Disassembly of Strut: The springs are NOT preloaded much so you don’t need a spring compressor. Front strut bolt comes of easily. I had to put upper washer on rear strut in vice (while it’s on strut) so piston rod wouldn’t turn. New springs, like Eibachs, need to be compressed; Ps10’s don’t. Don’t forget to mark orientation of springs and mounting hardware before taking strut apart.

Can I just remove the caliper and not the brake line to spare me from needing to bleed the brakes? Thanks.

Brake line does not need to be removed. Hang the caliper or rest it on an inverted bucket in the wheel well. Just make sure the brake line is not being stretched. You'll be ok.
