good thing is it will hopefully make Porsche up the ante on future iterations of the 911. Hopefully 400hp base models?
Read it as well. I actually this is great for the base model 997.2 as I have never really considered it direct competition when compared to the M3. In terms of price, yes, but in terms of standard equipment the S is more in the vein of the M3....just my opinion

P.S. I owned a E92 M3 DCT and sold it to buy my 06 997....never looked back

Here's another way to look at it: the Porsche as I recall was not an S. The standard car was as fast to 60 as the m at 4.1 secs. Thats pretty impressive all right. I'm thinking it's BMW that has to up something. Or we could try to remember why we bought Porsche in the first place. Or maybe that is why you bought Porsche, in which case you should be happy. At any rate, Happy holidays, Gerry

I have the article in hand. The 3.6 is .7 sec's faster to 150 than the m and just nips it in the 1/4 mi. I don't think the model they tested had launch control although it was pdk(?). I only mention this because of the earlier discussion as to whether the .2S w robot launch could stay w the m. I guess so. Here's what I don't get: the guys that need more hp, 400, 450, etc where do they drive? I find my car to be mind boggling ( literally) off the line and able to cost me my license in most any gear. I suppose I could be happy w either car, although I tired of the E46 m3, but no one should doubt the intentions or judgement of a guy that wants to own a Porsche. If I begin to sound like a socialist when I suggest these cars are fast enough, so be it. Gerry

Can you tell us what article, or better yet post a link?

Thanks!

Here is the link to the Car and Driver article comparing the M3 with the 997.2

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/comparison_test/coupes/2009_porsche_911_carrera_vs_2009_bmw_m3_comparison _test

After doing a little search I also found the Car and Driver thinks the new M3 is better than a 997 turbo which is laughable:

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/comparison_test/coupes/2008_bmw_m3_vs_2009_nissan_gt_r_vs_2008_porsche_91 1_turbo_comparison_test/(page)/1

I guess it does matters who the source is.

By the way since people are talking ¼ mile times, here are some other articles from Car and Driver with test sheets. You will notice that the M3 ¼ mile times vary from 12.9 to 12.6. When my 997 C2 was stock it ran the ¼ mile in 12.8 sec pretty consistently.
