Good question. I am interested to know too. Also, any saftey concerns at high speeds. Thanks 1st997s - not trying to hijack your thread!

doa search there are a lot of thoughts on this.

BUT THE CONCLUSION after talking with Porsche motorsports is:

depends on how you use the car!

1. If its just for looks and you never track the car, and never drive over 100 mph, then it should be fine with no rear wing. (Though remember it will add downforce to the front with none on the back)

2. If you track the car or drive at speeds over 100mph, the you will need to do both or the car will be very unbalanced at high speeds and turns. The kit was designed as a 2 part kit TOGETHER.

I wanted to do just the front but after experiencing the car on the track at over 100mph, i knew i would need a rear wing, so I purchased the GT3 front bumper and rear wing.

mobonic -- appreciate the post...will search the forums...i don't think i'll be tracking the car, however i can't say hitting speeds over 100mph might not be in the cards...the automatic wing that comes up north of 70mph will not provide enough downforce?

Go to this link and click on the AERODYNAMIC PACKAGE LINK in blue

http://www.porsche.com/usa/models/91...s/?gtabindex=5

There is a good video that explains how the GT3 kit works and was designed.

Remember the GT3 and Aerokit are the same other than the aerokit does not have the vent in front of the hood.

I have just the front part and as far as looks i think it looks great. I would leave the lower lip unpainted as it will keep it looking more balanced and not as low imo. As far as aerodynamics I spoke with a few people on this forum who have done it and some which track their car and they said it was fine. I don't track my car but I have hit about 120 and it feels the same to me. I have always thought that the front feels a little lite at high speeds and it still feels the same ( I think this is the suspension though not the aerodynamics) If you don't track your car then go ahead and do it, it looks great. I was wondering remember in the 996 c4s how it had the turbo kit without the turbo rear spoiler. Wouldn't that make it unbalanced?

I'm not saying that it will not work, im just passing on the info that i have read and ben told.

Those who have the front only like CayenneS2083 can provide better insight.

I just stated WHY I decided to go with the rear also....

PLUS I LOVE THE LOOK OF THE GT3!

Like I said i was going to do the same, so i accumulated a few pics of 997's with the GT3 front, without the rear wing.

enjoy.

Mobonic is right. According to Porsche the GT3/Aero front is not recommended without the rear spoiler. Aero/GT3 package is actually wind tunnel tested by Porsche so I believe their cautions have merits.

However, if you do not track the car I doubt you will have any problems during normal street driving even with the occasional high speed highway/back road run.

I actually really like the look of the 997 with just the Aero/GT3 front as the look is still pure porsche. I have also seen several people that have used smaller spoilers such as Techarts.

I'll chime in here and hopefully be a lil useful.

I got the gt-3 bumper and a misha gt-2 wing ( i think thats what its called)
I keep going back and forth about installing a big wing on my car so I decided to install the f/b first to see how it looks. I think that from some angles the car doesnt look odd with such a low bumper and no wing but I think overall it will look better with a wing so the car is back in the shop getting the wing installed.

The front lip btw is the GMG cup lip for the gt-3 bumper. Heres some pics prior to the wing being installed and i'll post those up after I get the car back... btw the car has rinnspeed side skirts as I used to have the rinnspeed front and rear skirts.

If you really take a good look at the 996 C4S, you'll notice that the 996C4S's front rubber spoiler is quite different from the 996 Turbo's - to start, the middle of it is a bit raised compared to the corners and it doesn't have the winglet style corners and I believe it also has 2 air inlets on either side of it. I know perfectly since I had one! I also bought the Aerokit for it from the Tequipment catalog and it is identical to the Turbo Aerokit as then the car would have a fixed rear spoiler and needs to be balanced with the front. Look at the photos I uploaded for comparison.

These photos below are for a 996 Turbo with Aerokit and a 996 C4S with Aerokit. I'm sorry that these are the only photos I could muster right now but you'll see that both kits are identical in appearance. Of course, they are not interchangeable due to the different internal configuration of the rear decklids to accomodate their respective engines' air intakes. The front lip spoilers are interchangeable, though.

Car looks sexy, with the GMG front lip and in my opinion you do need the spoiler to offset it but if you had gone with the standard lip the look would have been fine.

For reference,

I personally think the car needs the wing with the front bumper. With this car, going 100+ is a very real possibility so the danger of unbalanced aerodynamics will always linger. Aesthetically, I think the car looks too front heavy without a rear wing.
