Oil Usage - Why such a big difference among owners?

My own experience with my '08 C4S - I have added less than 1/2 quart since bringing the car out of storage the 1st week in May. I use the car as a DD (city and hwy. commute) and for weekend drives out of the city.

My 06 and 07 did not burn oil and really did not burn much oil at the track. My 09 burns oil a lot more and it seems like oil burning with the 09 is very common.

Looking at my calendar, mine was topped up 16 days ago and has been driven in short city-to-city runs approximately 1,000 kms.

The electronic dipstick showed a consumption of one bar yesterday which if I remember right is supposed to be equivalent to 0.4 liters as per manual. Mind you, it has not been brought to a track but has been through the usual new owner acceleration tests.

Bit disappointed though with my Porsche dealer because when I picked up this CPO car 19 days ago, I assumed all fluids to be topped. Thus, only after three days of familiarizing (read the manual) and enjoying the car did I find out that the oil level as per electronic dipstick was below the minimum and the half bar below the three full bars was flashing indicating a need to add oil.

Did the procedure faithfully as per manual and added oil in stages (on level garage over an hour span) until the indicator showed all three bars filled leaving the half bar at the very top unlighted (no overfill). That was a total fill of exactly 2 liters of Mobil 1 - 15W-50.

Now more conscious about checking oil levels (as I was with my 993) and checking for any leaks...none so far. It has only approx. 15,000kms on the odometer by the way.

The service from Porsche dealers, unfortunately, seems to be no better than for the American automakers IMO. I receive better service and follow-up from my Chrysler dealership. It is inexcusable that the fluids in you car were not topped up when you bought the car.

Regarding the oil you are using, Mobile 1 is recommended, but I believe it should be 0W-40.

On a more positive note, you have a great car. Congratulations.

Thanks for the compliment and I hear you on the 0W-40. The nearest Canuck Tire to me had no 0W-40 when I needed the fill badly...will check again. Where do you buy yours?

I find i have to fill my oil quite regular, every 2-3000km. I use it as a daily drive also. I get my oil at Lordco. Whenever they have it i buy by the case.

Short stop and go drives in warmer temps makes the car a little oil hungry . Dfi engines are hungrier .

Be careful when filling though . Overfill is not good.
