New Head Unit / Sports Chrono - Lose Functionality??
New Head Unit / Sports Chrono - Lose Functionality??
Hi -
I'm taking deliver on an '06 C2S and want to change out the Nav head unit for a Kenwood, and I'm worried about Sports Chrono funtionality. I did some searches, and read about some references to this, but I haven't found anything definitive. Questions:
- Will I lose functionality when I swap out the stock unit for the Kenwood?
- If so, what functionality will be lost? Will the Sports/Chrono work at all?
- Is there a hack / solution to get the functionality back again?
Thanks in advance!
I've heard that my existing Nav would display the next turn on the dash display, and I'll lose that feature with the new unit. I'm not too worried about that.

Jack,
Good luck with your project - I'm interested in how it turns out. I have an '05 C2S without navigation and have been considering what to do. I can buy the aftermarket boxes for bluetooth and iPod . . but adding navigation is much more difficult.
Again, good luck and I will PM you (whenever I get 15 posts and am allowed to PM ;-( )

I wish I could help regarding the Sport Chrono features, but my car did not have it. Check out this thread from a while back regarding some of the things to consider when swapping out the PCM.

I love the end result, so it was well worth it...but it can be daunting. Hope some more people chime in on the Sport Chrono aspect.

Cool! I read that thread, and your's too, Axel, and I'm really getting pumped. I'll contact YouYou for details, but as long as I keep some sports chrono functions, I think I'm going to be ecstatic with the new system. I went to the showroom today for the audio guys and the new Kenwood high end system looks awesome. I'll get a crazy reverse camera, iPod, Bluetooth, and maybe Sat radio as well. huge screen with no buttons, all touchscreen. Lots of dough, but I can sell my PCM unit with Nav and recoup some. They'll put in a new amp and all new spreakers, including 8" subs in the doors with Dynamat. I'll certainly post pics, etc.
If you havent already, you may want to buy the bezel from Euromotorspeed. It matches beautifully and will save you a ton of labor with having your installer fabricate one from scratch.
Steve
PS: Im thinking of adding the reverse camera to mine as well. I believe you can get them mounted in license plate covers. Seems like an elegant solution.

The installer I'm contemplating is recommended by both local Porsche dealerships and they do alot of work with these cars, but don't know alot about sports chrono. They had a Cayman there today, and one over the weekend that they wanted me to see, with this same setup. They have a different source for a bezel, and it looks the same, from the web photos, but no PORSCHE sticker.
They say there's a new option for the camera, $350, vs $200, but you get a multiple choices for the view: typical 160 degrees, super wide 172 degrees, straight down, split screen etc.
As with all of above, I think - for me - it will be 50% function and 50% bling

Please tell me the brand name of this camera! And, is it only for Kenwood head units or does it work with Pioneer as well? That sounds super cool! I want one!!!
If I can find my Porsche sticker that came with my bezel, I'd be happy to send it to you. I prefer a cleaner look.

OK - let me know if you find that sticker - I might want to go that route. As for the camera, looking at the quote I got today, it says the brand is Kenwood and the model is CMOS300. A quick search turns up this link among others:

Found the sticker, PM me your address and I'll be happy to put it in the mail.
