will new nav unit work?
will new nav unit work?
I really like the new oem nav units , as opposed to the one on my 2006 997. Does anybody know if it will work? has anybody tried it?

A PCM 3.0 will not retrofit into a 997.1 car. Looks like the car would need to be rewired, and as someone stated before the system must be vin matched/activated.

actually the vin problem cannot be overcome that easily. Porsche WILL NOT authorize a PCM 3.0 to be put in a car spec'd for 2.0- it is a non-sanctioned oem swap - so from that perspective unless you have friends in Zuffenhausen, I don't think it is possible.
I went through hell just to get the NAV PCM 3.0 oem replaced on my non NAV PCM 3.0 and the whole part had to come directly from Germany where they code match the VIN to authorize it to work.
Your other point about the CAN being different is also a major obstacle.
Otherwise, I would love to upgrade to PCM 3.1 that is in the Panamera (cool 3d satellite maps with topography and such).

actually the vin is not the problem, like I said that can be overcame, and on the same token, we could address the speed issue as an all in one solution. The problem is demand, and finding a PCM3 to replace the PCM2.
We gave up on Porsche to come up with solutions, and went outside the box.
