I got the DieHard Advanced Gold AGM for $170.99 at Sears which is a perfect fit.

Why use one of the heaviest batteries on that size (47lb) when a perfectly good Interstate MTP 48/H6 weighs 38.8lb?

H8, H7 and H6 all will fit but the correct size (at least equivalent to OEM size) is the H7...and it is lighter than the OEM Moll.

I thought that the H7 is longer than the OEM Moll.

Same size - uses the same hole in the battery tray to secure the hold down clamp as the OEM Moll.

Yellowdog tray? I used it with the 34R on my previous 997. Had to use the longer neg cable but otherwise worked great. Buy the next size up on the washers for bolting the battery to the plastic. PM me - I have the Yellowdog stainless steel tray and and a spare cable if you're going to go this route.

I just picked up an H7 from Walmart and installed it in my 2008C2S yesterday. It is an exact fit ( identical dimensions to the Moll) but with almost double the capacity for ~$150. After that, I only needed to re-set the windows and drive the car about 1000 ft to reset the PASM and PSM. No loss of radio settings, etc. ( battery was out of the car for about two hours while I charged up the new one)

Sort of...

Using the 34R but...

I made an adapter tray for < $5 picking up a 3pk of HPDE cutting boards from Target. Trimmed to fit (use old battery for rough guide), drilled a few holes for hold down screws (from misc workshop supplies) and refreshed kitchen stash too.

Longer cable not needed in my '06 C2S but YMMV.

Great! Could you please address the following:

* How long have you had the Optima?

* How do you use the car (every day, short drives, long drives)?

* Do you need to recharge the battery with a battery maintainer (if yes, which battery maintainer do you use)?

Great! Could you please address the following:

* How long have you had the Optima?
2+ years in this vehicle but also had one for 4 years in a previous Porsche and had one in everyday SUV for 4 years

* How do you use the car (every day, short drives, long drives)?
Mostly medium to long drives plus DE & AX duty. It's my 'therapy' car but sees ~ 4-5k annually and stored winters

* Do you need to recharge the battery with a battery maintainer (if yes, which battery maintainer do you use)?
I use C-Tek 3300 (Porsche Charge-O-Mat II but w/ more functions and 1/2 the price b/c no P-logo). Not needed except during 5 month hibernation period but I do plug in if car will not be driven for a few weeks (if I remember) due to automatic maintenance features it provides. If you go Optima, you need C-Tek and not Porsche version for the 'Snowflake' feature (needed for AGM batteries like Optima).
http://smartercharger.com/battery-ch... Multi US 3300 FYI - check Amazon, ebay, etc as it's usually ~ $20 cheaper there.

Optima batteries used to be really good w/ a 7yr warranty but since they reduced to 3yr it's getting increasingly difficult to justify the hefty premium. That said, AdvanceAuto, AutoZone and others often give a 20% off coupon when registering to receive their emails... batteries included.

Hope this helps - good luck

Thanks for posting; the Walmarts around me are sort of out of the way, so i was looking at either Autozone or Sears. Got my AGM 94R battery yesterday - car cranked great after the swap. Stupid thing was that the Sears computer spec'd a group 49 (which is bigger).

While it still fit in the tray, the hole in the tray that the clamp would have to be screwed into didn't have any threads. So I had to take the 49 back and tell them to give me the 94R. 189.99.

Oh, and I had my battery out of the car for 10 hours - didn't have any issues with losing presets or time or anything like that after dropping in the replacment. PSM failure cleared in less than a minute of driving, as expected.
