PCM 2.1 Question????

How do you know if you have the telephone on or off once you put a SIM card into the slot? Am I missing something or do I need to turn something on? I went to AT&T and got a SIM card today and slipped it into the slot but nothing happened. Am I missing something? or just a dummy? Don't answer the last question...........

If your car doesn't have the telephone module installed, a SIM card won't do anything.

Push the telephone button...if there is no internal phone system installed, it will tell you so.

The built in phone module is a tri band and therefore an AT&T SIM card may not be supported. The t-mobile card will work. I bought a pay as you go card from t-mobile and forward my phone to the car.

The car telephone uses the frequencies 900, 1800, 1900. Where I live AT&T uses the 850 band. So the phone won't work with the AT&T SIM card. YMMV

So I guess I need a ............

Porsche PCM 2.1 Phone Module. Does anyone know if the dealership sells that part and installs? Is it expensive? I I'm crazy for going down this route but I don't want to modify the car with aftermarket electronics, they always seem to fail for me and I always have issues with them.

One more thing, you might need to phone in to your carrier to activate the sim card first before putting it into the car.

Cartronics, Thanks for info.........

but I'm confused. Their Module or Your Module?, what does that mean? I agree with what you are saying about bluetooth, I have it in my 2011 Touareg Excutive and LOVE IT!!, but I don't want to modify the car, I would like to stay OEM 100% if I can. I don't plan on a lot making calls from the car, just plan on using in case of emergency or if I want to make a quick call and don't feel like picking up my iPhone. Get back to me, I would be interested in your module or other module.
