My 2007 C2S has been making a rattling noise (sounds like a diesel engine at times) especially noticeable at idle. I have scheduled a service visit to my local porsche dealer since it was due for its 40k mile service anyway.

Any advice?

 

Just on start up? That's normal. Sport exhaust flaps, everyone? Mine does that for the first minute or so, but some folks have said if it lasts longer, you may need to have the exhaust looked at...

 

I have heard of the baffles coming loose in one of the mufflers, that makes a rattling noise, and I'm not sure if it is isolated to a side or not.

What I read was related to the PSE and it was baffles coming loose and making a rattling noise. There is a thread about 3 or 4 days old that talks about it. I'll look to see if I can find it again.

Only rattle you will need to be aware of is chain rattle at startup. If it lasts longer and longer it may be a problem either with chain itself or tensioner. All m97 and m96 engines suffer from that.
Show car to good mechanic if you have any engine related concerns.
