Drivers: I drive a 2010 Carrera Coupe. 40,000 miles. zero issues of any kind. a couple of weeks ago I replaced my Michelin Pilot back tires with a comparable Hankook tire (hankook ventus v12 evo)... trying to save $$... left the Michelins on the front since they have 10K miles and virtually no wear. The car now basically floats when driven above 30MPH... there is almost a 2 second lag between what I ask the car to do (i.e. turn... change a lane...) and when it does it. The back tires feel like they are almost flat... this is so pronounced the car is almost unsafe to drive. Car came with Pirelli's. Put the back Michelins on at 20K... did not experience any handling issues at all with P-on front and M-on rear. Any one have any experience with the Hankook tires? Thanks... PC

FWIW, I share your impression. Since I switched from Hankooks to Super Sports, it's like an entirely different car. Never going back!

 

I am trying to convince myself to go ahead and put the Hankooks on the front to see what the difference is. But with the M Super Sports the car moved like it was on a razor's edge. I'm afraid of throwing more cash into the Hankooks and winding up with a car that feels like it has marshmellows for tires.... and having to throw away 4 new tires to get proper 'feet' on my baby!

my conclusion was weak sidewalls on certain batches.. which i wrote off to bad quality control by Hankook.

will never go back.

 

carzycarlitos.... that is the exact feel I have.... the sidewalls feel like they flex like crazy before the tread of the tire causes the car to move... when driving straight at about 35-40 mph, and rapidly turning the wheel just an inch left, right, left.... the backend of the car just wallows from side to side....

 

I did a track event Saturday at Harris Hill Raceway and the tires gripped very well. Great tire.

I've had them on the car now for 2 months and I'm very impressed. I bought the car (used) with 18" Continentals and questioned whether to go this route. In my former car, an E46 M3 I ran Continental, PS2, and Dunlop, (in this order) and I felt the PS2 was hands-down the best. I owned that car for 7 years.

Having the tire experience I was skittish about spending money on them, albeit they're much less than the PS2.

I don't know what everyone's concern is with the Hankook EVO V12 because it's a VERY GOOD TIRE.

 

I have about 5000 mile on my Hankooks and I like them.
The Hankooks can not be run at low tire pressure. The manual recommends two tire pressures depending on load. With the Hankooks you have to run them at the higher pressure. It could be the sidewall is not rigid enough when running at low tire pressure?

Those are almost 1/2 price of the Michelin PSS. Sounds & looks like a bargain to me but I have never used Hankook before. I guess it wouldn't hurt to try, however, I would probably replace all 4 tires at the same time instead of just 2.

 

I hahave had them on my car for about 15k miles or so. Here's my experience:
At first, seemed to float. Then after 500 ,iles or so, settled down and seemed fine. I even went to the track one weekend and I was pleased. (my track car broke so I took out the 997)
Then, after about 12k miles, it was time to replace the rears. I suppose I could have replaced all 4, but I figured the fronts had plenty of grip left. I did an alignment at the time, at a different shop, and I requestded a more OEM type setting, as I was unhappy with the uneven wear due to negative camber etc. The car floats like crazy now Mimi took it back and complained about the alignment, but the shop owner - who is a PCA racer type - took me out on a test drive and blamed it on the tires. It sucks when you. Hange two things, but I tend to agree that it's the tires. I suppose I could put new Hankooks on the front, but I think I'll switch to Michelin PSS or something similar next time.

This question is probably worth a separate thread, but should be a popular topic due to the common experience of rears wearing quicker an the fronts: do people generally have a good experience when replacing just the rears with the same brand and type of tire?

 

I've been happy with mine. Car feels planted and less road noise than the Pilot Sports I had on before.

 

I have the same experience this week, I have Sport Contact 3's in the front and installed new Hankook's in the rear few days ago.... OMG, BAD IDEA!!!!!!! Car was all over the freeway and totally unsafe, I wish I read this post before I got the rear Hankooks.

Just ordered front Hankooks, hope they work out.

 

I have the Hankooks in the rear of my car and the Pilot SS in the front. After about 2k miles, the car feels planted in the rear without any float, but then again, I did just lower car with Eibachs. One thing i did notice is that the curb guard on the Pilot SS are more pronounced so it makes the tire look like it sits more flush with the edge of the wheel.
