I'm torn ..
Never thought I would let go my first Porsche, my 997.2 C4S. Pristine/mint is an understatement for this car that I've equipped to the hilt with every single performance and fluff option as I never thought I would part with this GT silver/Dark grey natural leather beauty. I will miss the SPASM/PDK shifts for sure .. With the cayenne in the household, I don't need two daily drivers and to be honest I'm smitten by the pure roadster that the Boxster spyder happens to be (even though I have never driven one). Smitten enough to the point where I am
letting go a car that is perfect for the PNW weather/roads. Spyder would be the most impractical choice but ..
My dealer says he will buy my car from me and help me with the spyder purchase (so I get the tax benefit) but my heart sank when he said that he would remove the venture shield clear bra that covers the entire (yes entire car) painted portion of the car (he states that he would only leave the front portion). I wish I could pass it along to a true enthusiast but too many tire kickers out there and I don't have anytime dealing with all the negotiations of a private sale. I'm torn ..

aargh are you serious, don't do it!!! You did your Cayenne to the hilt, and your C4S too, keep both and enjoy them. Totally different animals. Besides with the rain here in the NW sun for 911 rain Cayenne! That's what one of the surgeons here does!!

People don't understand from this thread that you have a dream of a GT3RS that will be fulfilled sooner than later. Don't agonize too much. Or keep the C4s and use/drive lowpue's garage queen C4S in exchange for switching cars now and then.
w00t....I'd hang onto your car....wouldn't dream of switching it for a Boxster
Your car is lovely and there's no way walking into the garage to look at her is going to give you the same thrill.....no way!

Love my guys here. Let's fast forward time here and say in the next two years or so I tell you this is what you see:
A Classic 911: '86 carrera 3.2*
An all weather DD: 2011 Cayenne S
Simple roadster: 2012 Boxster Spyder
Water cooled 997: 2010/11 GT3RS*
Now how many say I would still miss my C4S or my '76 911 track car. Well ya I definitely would miss it for a variety of reasons (the least of which is the bath I would take on the C4S sale) but there is only that much time and cars you can drive, detail and/ or adore just looking at it in the garage.
This whole thought of the swap transpired only due to two reasons:
1. My wife insisted that I use a "safer" vehicle for my weekly commute over Snoqualmie pass. A very close friend of mine also felt that as much as I loved driving my C4S over the pass, the *Cayenne is just better euipped for that kinda use.*
2. The spyder that I am eyeing is truly one of a kind. I could just spend thirty minutes looking at it in the garage everyday without even driving it and it would still be worth it's price of admission.*
The only problem is my C4S is a stunner and something about the 997 platform that just gets under my skin. Absolutely love 997. So eventually I would get a RS as my 997 fix.
The cayenne and the C4S would both depreciate .. (not that the RS or spyder would not but probably less so) .. And I see no point having a Cayenne depreciate without using it.*

Just to clarify: I'm torn not in the C4S/spyder swap but the fact that I although I would like it to go to an enthusiast, it makes it so much easier to sell it to the dealer
Well yes, I'd agree with selling to the dealer b/c you don't have to deal with a bunch of tire kickers like you said. My neighbor and former cowoker has a Boxster Spyder and it is a beautiful machine. Granted, it is lower in the Porsche hierarchy than a C4S, but it is meant to be a different animal (plus, I'm assuming you're making money on the deal and/or are lowering your payment if you are financing). There is no doubt that you will find it a blast to drive. Personally I'd rather have the car you have now over the Spyder, but it isn't as if you're making bad decision either. If you plan on tracking, you'll probably have more fun with the Spyder too!
sorry to hear..
but it seems like u got a plan.. so,
just sell the car to the dealer and take advantage of the sales tax break.
although u want the car to end up with some1 who appreciates everything u've done to ur Pcar.. u said yourself u don't have the time to sell it privately.
I am unsure why the dealership is removing perfectly good film from the entire car
, but rest assured your car will most likely end up in the hands of a Porsche enthusiast anyway and it will be enjoyed for many years to come.
be sure to post some pics of the spyder here later since lot of us don't venture to the Boxster section of the forum too often
and ditto for the gt3rs
