Here's a picture of the type of wheel I currently have. Does any one know how to remove the plastic front part (the part that covers the air bag)?
Someone did this recently - I'll see if I can find a link for you. Isn't the part that covers the airbag part of the airbag...at least that's what the picture shows on the Suncoast site.

You need to remove the airbag first. There are screws underneath to remove the silver trim pieces.

I believe it's accessed from the bottom on the steering wheel shroud. There are threads on this. Be careful, there's an explosive charge in there. Make very sure you know what you're doing. The plastic fascia is indeed part of the airbag assembly. I don't think it can be separated.

Also make sure you mark the threads on the spline when you remove the wheel. Placement is trickier than you'd think. My mechanic was one thread off, and my new wheel had a center marker at TDC. It drove me crazy until they re-reinstalled it.

FWIW, I never realized what a dramatic impact a new wheel could make. I'm thrilled with mine. Enjoy yours, and post pics. You'll thank yourself for getting it every time you slide behind the wheel.

Joe there is a hole in the bottom of the airbag face plate, about 1/4 back from the front. Feel around with your finger, you'll find it. You have to stick a narrow allen wrench in the hole, straight up, to push the spring that holds the airbag in place. When you do this correctly the face plate will pop out. Don't be surprised that you have to push hard enough that the allen wrench will hurt your hand, its a beefy spring.

That's it. I saw somewhere that it's recommended the battery is disconnected before popping the airbag but not sure if it's necessary. Also, when putting things back together, there's a "channel" on the bottom of the inside of the airbag housing. That's where the wiring rests. If the wiring is not in that channel it can get jammed up in there when you push the bag in place which disables the horn and can also jam the spring mechanism that releases the airbag. There's a reason I know of these traps

I think you're right...I wouldn't do anything with an airbag unless the battery was disconnected.

Center your steering wheel as close as possible. Disconnect the battery next
On the back of the lower arm there is a small hole as noted by others.
Get a small Allen wrench and as others have said push hard and the bottom pops off.
Gently pry upwards.
Disconnect the airbag.
Set it outside the car.
Using a t-50(if I remember correctly) undo the bolt and just pull the steering wheel off.
Slide the whee off.
Place the new wheel off making sure it's centered.
Reconnect the airbag
Attach the bag starting at the top
Press down to reengage the same release spring

Reconnect the battery
