it was just a comment... i followed his progress on the forums of his ride. BTW, he was lightyears ahead of you. Sure, you may have more stuff done now, but he was one of the first to do all the v-steiner body mods. Plus, he has always been friendly and helpful with everyone... you......well havent.

Forgot about jerry; that car was uber light to the point were it almost defeated the purpose of having a luxury sportscar...It was sick it its own way, thats for sure! His car hasnt really been mentioned lately.. I think last thing i heard was that he was parting out his stg3 setup for something else.

His bumper was another brand and the original owner had put it on. Martin did do the roof before me it wasnt Vorsteiner, i had the roof but was contemplating the install. He had the SC before me to right?

Dude, maybe 30 lbs. Considerably is a strong word. Remember, the Turbo vs Gt2 or even the 3. Hell, the 3 is a narrow body with no turbos or a sunroof, all of the other aforementioned weight reductions and it weighs about 400 lbs less. C'mon bro, you would literally be driving a frame with an engine, tranny, suspension and wheels to knock off 500 lbs.

Wait which car are we still talking about, the M3 roof weight savings is not 30lbs, nowhere near it. All of my modifications i listed, minus lightweight battery with still, all ammentities so to speak was like a 300+lb weight savings, not including a few lbs that my roll bar put on, just telling you what was done! Now, sound deadining is something crazy like 40-50 lbs, lightweight hawker batter, no ac condensor and so on that's easily 400 lbs right there, then it starts to get hard. you can get some lightweight wheels, take out paneling and carpets, strip the trunk to get to that point. it would still be shy of 500 but fact is, you can get close to it.

BTW one of the BIGGEST weight savings between the gt2 and the 996tt to get down those 300lbs are hardtop/no sunroof and rwd (no front diff, shafts/drivetrain)

 

No, 30 lbs is the weight saving from a sunroof to a non sunroof. Not the metal roof to a Cf roof. The wheels were already added to that 350 lbs you cited earlier. Sound insulation, 40 to 50 lbs? I guess if you believe it, that's all that matters. I said that the front driveshaft was removed in my earlier response regarding my Turbo vs Gt2 comparison. That only strengthens my suspicion regarding your 500 lb number. They saved 300 to 400 lbs and they removed a driveshaft and a lot of other things to do it!

 

Read again, not in any of my posts did i mention lightweight wheels, which will make a great deal on a car handling wise with unsprung weight, sort of like a hardtop/non sunroof car.

Maybe Vikw ill chime in, full sound deadening removal in an M3 is ALOT OF WEIGHT that you would never even think of!

Race muffler, piping, headers, no cats and so on was easily 40-50 lbs im guessing, stock muffler is HEAVYY! My brake kit savbed like 20 lbs, cf trunk and hood arent so much big weight savings but about 40 together, removing back seats and panels is 40-50 lbs, it all adds up!"

 

I didn't say you added the wheels, I added the wheels to your number, still not 500 lbs. Supposedly, the sunroof handling issue or lack thereof is a myth. It's more of a poser issue. "A real sportscar/trackcar does not have a sunroof." I know many drivers (professional) they all say there is no discernible difference, but they like the additional 20 to 30 lb weight savings with no sunroof. Numbers are numbers no matter how you cut it. I would like to lose ten pounds. I could take off all my clothes, but that still won't do it.

 

wow... you really think that lack of a sunroof and increased performance is a myth? THis forum is full or really knowledgeable people... Looking beyond the fact that the car is heavier, think of where the weight actually is! Its on the highest point of the car. The absolute worst place for it to be!
