The real issue here is when to expect the Z06 equivalent. That is the real version. This first base model is just the teaser (to me). I mean, if you can get that much car for so little, imagine what the next step up will bring...

Absolutely. The 2014 model year, automatics in particular because of the Aisin transmission it's using (GM's transmission doesn't debut until 2015), will depreciate very quickly. I would also imagine they'll sell 40K+ in 2014.

Hopefully the Z06 will be a) naturally aspirated and b) out for 2015.

$54k will be the MSRP.

This has been verified by Mike Furman, Corvette sales manager at Criswell Chevrolet in Gaithersburg, MD. They are the #3 Corvette dealer in the nation.. and he is a taking 100% refundable deposit of $1000 if you would like to be one of the first with the car.

Top Gear television presenters are apt to scoff at the Corvette's transverse leaf springs, but there's nothing wrong with them if all they do is supply the springing medium and not axle location as they do here. The Z06 can be turned-in on the brakes, but prefers a slight pause between braking and turning. Once in the corner the springs allow a small amount of roll and the wheels continue to ride bumps well. Even so, the chassis isn't as communicative as some and you can find the rear tyres sliding wide with little warning. It's a good-natured car, though, and in cases of severe driver abuse there's also a brilliantly progressive traction-control system.

Meh, top gear Europe is fun to watch but I hardly take any stake in their likes and dislikes. Clarkson always loved the viper and then didn't like the new one because he said its too much like the old ones?? Hates vettes but picked the zr1 over a v10 Audi r8... They generally don't like Americans cars on top gear Britain.. Not sure why the Brits wouldnt like American... Hmmmmm.. Odd

Looks like I was wrong. MSRP is $51,995.

Even cheaper than what Mike was telling customers. Will be two years before I get one, but I cannot wait!

This is where optioned packages will **** me off...

That MSRP is a STEAL! BUT - if you want one with a speedometer, and brakes, you'll need the 3LT package for an additional $20k.

The option packages arent a "steal" but have gone down in price too. The Z51 package is the biggest option package & only $2800 (bigger wheels, brakes, tires, E-LSD, spoiler, extra cooling, close gear ratio, dry sump oil). MyLink & NAV is only $700. And the 2LT package gets you the COLOR HUD. A 2LT w/Z51 package runs about $58,000.

The only reason to get the 3LT package is if you want leather all over the doors & dash.

Z51 + 2LT w/NAV seems like it would suit me just fine.

$58k seems like a great deal for those options/performance.

Exactly what I'm going for. Plus the magnetic ride control + performance track management (Magnetto like Ferrari offers):

White exterior
Red interior
Black Wheels
Red calipers
Z51
2LT
MRC + PTM
Nav

$60k should do it
