Coolant leak: what else should be done while engine is out?

Hi,

I have a 997.1 TT 6M, lightly modded (exhaust+tune), 58K miles. I have a massive coolant leak, possibly the coolant tube has been ejected. I know it is one of the weaknesses of the GT1 engine. If this is the case, my mechanic will have to drop the engine to fix it.

What else would you recommand to be done to the car while the engine is out? I am talking about preventive maintenance, not new mods.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Replace all rubber coolant hoses and connecting tubes...there are several which require engine drop to replace (major problem with these cars). Replace clutch assembly and rear engine seal. Sparkplugs too if not done at 40K. Should be no labor charge for drive belt.

Not a bad idea to have a thorough inspection of the IMS.

FYI, I had same problem and they didn't have to drop engine. I had my fittings pinned after they replace 1 fitting they seemed loose. Several threads on this here.

Was at my Indie shop yesterday, had an 07 on the lift, same deal. Problem is the little rubber fittings are on top of the motor, no way to replace except drop the engine.

AND, there just happened to be a 997 (06?) the had a bad IMS. The bearings looked like silver Milk Duds. Owner said it happened very quickly, 50k on the clock.

People have mentioned on this thread to check the IMS and rear engine seal. I thought these were only issues with the N/A engines and the turbos did not have these issues.

Can anyone confirm that a 07 997 TT does not share the same IMS issues as its NA counterparts? Reading the Excellence magazine right now and it is giving me the ****** on this issue...

The turbo does not suffer from IMS failure. There is a class action lawsuit about IMS and class action lawsuit for the Cayenne water pipes. My guess is there will also be a class action lawsuit with the Cayenne's drive shaft problems which affect 100% of the cars.
