GT2RS Intercoolers / Installed

Finally finished this. I couldn't find a DIY for the 997's. The ducts are different. I modified them so the intercooler was centered, which makes sense as the bracket should centered once that is attached.

Honestly, there is a lot of work involved with this.

Looks like you did a really nice/neat job of it! Good job. Still waiting for mine to arrive...Next Tuesday. Already have everything apart and trimmed the ridge off the air guides..I was planning on trimming out the tabs rather than using Zip Ties...Looks like that is what you did? I was hoping that would fit...Looks like it does.

Not that it is needed, but I also line the air guides with some High density PVC foam molding? Maybe will help seal them...who knows...I doubt it will hurt

Posted a pic of the molding just as an FYI.

Hi Rock,

I didn't trim all the edges on mine. I just trimmed the ends and also trimmed the intercoolers. If you don't trim the intercoolers, you wont be able to alter the factory straps.

I also decided to seal the ends in overkill mode.

One more thing, I also liked leaving the metal flange from the intercooler after it was cut. This allowed me to have a nice seam between the intercooler and plastic ducts. Still allowing the outer fins to be somewhat useful.

Thanks! Since I do not have mine yet, I cannot see how big, etc...

So I was referring to opening the holes on the bottom of the fastening tabs as opposed to Zip Ties. It looks like that is what you did in the picture is that true?

Also I was planning on trimming the air guides where the tank fastens to the core as you did...But again, waiting for mine to know where to trim Appears you trim right at the thicker tabs.

Last question for you...What did you use to seal the tanks? I assume some two part epoxy? or??

Thanks!

Also...Have yu been able to take it for a run yet? I have a feeling right after I get it back together the weather is going to crap out...and will be months before I even get to test it....I went ahead and ordered rear brake pads since it is up and open and I cannot use it....

Take care,
DC

I haven't started the car for over 6 weeks, which is my next issue I guess. Hopefully these photos will help you.

I can dig around for the interlip config. this is what seals the hood to the intercooler using this method. I spent 6 hours to examine this prior to cutting anything. I just have to get my hi temp silicone tomorrow to finish it out.

Could you just buy the 997.2 ducting for a plug and play set up?

Ducting for the 997.2 should swap out fine without alteration. I believe a 6speed member has already Done this.

MSRP: $301.55

5 - Part Number: 99757565801

Maybe a salvage yard may be the best option.

No Problem. I added the diagram and part reference numbers to my previous post to assist as well.

I thought about that option and called LA dismantlers in CA.. They would only sell the intercooler with the ducting included. I don't remember the price now, but at the time I noted that it wasn't cost effective to go this route since I already had purchased the coolers themselves..

Now maybe if you were starting from scratch it might make sense..for some reason 1400 sticks in my head..pretty sure that was the price for each side.

Yep...They had the whole units listed for about ~ $1399.99 each side from a 2012. Dremel tool is much less
