997.2 Turbo vs 991.1 Turbo worth the $ difference? Thanks.

 

I've been wanting a 991.1 or .2 TTS for a long time now, even though I love my 997.2 TTS.

Power wise, the 991.1 actually only has just a bit more and it's done with slightly smaller turbos than the 997.2 TTS's.

But if you're wanting a bit more car in the size / handling performance / Tech., the 991's are the ones to have. 4 wheel steering and PDCC make them better cars for handling.

BUT, the price delta is still kinda steep, so only you can answer that part. For me, I was already over budget by buying a 997.2 TTS. It'd really be stupid for me to trade up again, but I'll always want one. Actually if I ever trade up, it'll be for a 991.2 TTS.

 

I own a black 997.1 TT with a manual transmission. Most people are very surprised that it is so “old”. The dash and console are definitely dated. But, with a tune, exhaust, and upgraded clutch, it has enough torque and horsepower to make me smile.

Both cars you mention are great. Keep them shiny and most people will admire either car.

 

I have a 7.2 '10 variety Turbo and have grown to really love the size, looks and feel of the 997 gen cars. It is one of the few cars I have ever held on to (10 years!!...a record for me) while many others in my stable have come and gone. I used to always want the latest cars in any brand but the 997 has really been satisfying and I don't see myself getting into a larger 991 or 992 variety. In fact, I very much want a 7.2 RS3 next to complement the turbo. I totally understand the desire you have to look at a newer model as they are obviously fantastic too...i am only saying that at least in the Porsche realm it isn't always necessary like it seems to be with many other brands.

 

997 Turbo is the next future classic ... I love the shape of the car! Unfortunately I sold my 997.1 manual for a 991.2 Turbo.

 

I have my 997.1 Turbo and 991.1 GT3... Thinking about trading the GT3 for another Turbo, but the whole reason I bought a GT3 was so it would hold value and I wouldn't mod it. Decisions decisions... lol

 

It's hard to argue the classic-ness of the 997 package for sure. It's also hard to argue that the 991.1 / .2 TT/S' are better cars in all aspects though.

That's my biggest dilemma. I love the newest tech also, but love my 997.2 TTS for what it is.

With just a simple tune and Europipe exhaust, I'm in the 991.2 TTS power range and times (1/4, 1/8, 60-130, etc.)...It's just the chassis , steering, handling, etc. improvements that are hard to resist in the 991 package...

I’ll share my experience with this decision. I had a x50 996TT for many years, unfortunately crashed at Laguna Seca. After a few months, I started looking for another turbo. I started looking at 997.2 TTS since 997.1 was too similar to the 996, but for just a little more I could get a 991TT. So I drove a couple of these, and it just didn’t quite click on on the fun meter. So I gradually walked myself up the ladder to 991.1 TTS then 991.2 TT and finally TTS seeking the visceral feel. I got a long, salesman-free (courtesy of covid) test drive of a 12k mile 991.2TT with all the right perf options. It just felt kind of sterile and not that fun to drive. The 991.2 TTS did-that thing is insane-but now we are talking 60-70k more than the 997. So I reversed course and I’m now proud owner of a 2010 TT that’s more fun, nicer to look at, and will probably hold value much better.
