V8V ECU Malfunction??

Bought a 2007 V8V roadster a couple of weeks ago. The following occurs only when I start the car with the convertible top down: various failure warning lights blink, followed by a brake failure message, followed by brake light and ABS light that will not turn off, and no displays work, gauges don't work etc., and the top will not function. If I let the car sit for a period of time, everything returns to normal -- top goes up, car operates and drives perfectly. This has never happened with the top up. Also, I've not had warning lights or other malfunctions while driving, only while starting the car with the top down. Anyone experience something similar? Any ideas or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

I'm guessing here but is it possible that the car sat for a long time before purchase and had the battery drain down to nothing? I've heard that if that happens you can experience electrical issues even once it's charged back up.

Maybe Irish or Aston Fixer can weigh in here ...

I'm sure that happened because I had to drive the car extensively for the sensors to reset before I could get my emissions inspection. My shop said it was because the battery had been drained or disconnected recently. Any idea what the fix is for the electrical issues? Thanks for the response. I appreciate it.

Get a load and drain test done by the dealer
They will also be able to check all the modules are OK
I had something similar on both my roadsters
One was a wiring loom fault the other a dead battery (on a 3 month old Vantage S )

Possible wheel speed sensor could be an issue as well. When wheel speed sensors goes out, everything goes berserk because so much is dependent on that (especially convt tops or nose lift systems which are fully dependent on speed.). If they ECU does not know the speed it's set default is to forbid anything.

Ended up being the convertible roof module. Does $1,300 parts and labor sound right? Thanks for the responses.

Sry I chimed in late, been real busy. In deed it sounds like the CRM(convert roof module). The lights in the dash are hish speed can and the msg area are low speed can networks. The CRM bring down the low speed network which is why your msg display went blank.
Don't know how much labour they charged but about 1-1.5hr replacement of module would be averaged

Congrats on the purchase of your new car!! The color combo is striking and now that the roof is fixed you will be ready to enjoy the Spring weather. If you purchased it from a dealer they may be inclined to participate in the repair if you say it has only been a couple of weeks.

Congrats on the car. Wow, those photos look great. Where were they taken, the dealer?

Thanks. Dealer/broker took the photos. Looked for two years for this or a similar color combo. I bought it from out of town, sight unseen and didn't even notice the black manifold cover until after the deal was done. Nice surprise. Last 3 cars were manual Carrera 4s. I was concerned I wouldn't like the SS transmission but I love it. And the sound of this thing when you open up the throttle . . . words can't describe. Very happy with the car.

I didn't notice it until you mentioned the "Black Manifold Cover". Maybe you mentioned it because you are already aware that it means your car got the 400 HP upgrade kit. I believe that was a dealer aftermarket upgrade to the tune of around $3-4 grand. Maybe the great sound means the previous owner also did an exhaust upgrade to go with the better breathing manifold. Sometimes buying a used car can be like a treasure hunt discovering nice upgrades the previous owner made. Good Luck!

Hi guys,

I'm having the same problem with my 2008 V8V Roadster. It just happened. "various failure warning lights blink, followed by a brake failure message, followed by brake light and ABS light that will not turn off, and no displays work, gauges lights are off" also noticed something like Gear display not available. Then I turned the car off, removed the key, open door, the radio was still on - couldn't change stations or turn it off. GPS was on. I couldn't lock the car with the remote. I just stood there wandering if I'm losing my mind...bizzaroworld.

I checked brake fluid level - it's fine.

Now, I've been driving the car whole day without issues. Car sat for about 3 hours. Roof is up, but was down earlier in the day.

I left the car sitting for 30min, started it, everything was fine for about a minute. Same thing happened. Parked and started writing this post.

Exactly what I experience. New roof module fixed everything. No problems since. Cost at dealer was about $1,300, parts and labor.

I'm not a mechanic, but heavy into technology. Roof module - this makes ZERO sense to me. heh.

I will try a hard reset tomorrow.

Did you drive the car to dealership that way? (my dealer is 3km up a busy street)
