As we're specially looking for a CarPlay/Android Auto unit, the Garmin options aren't going to suffice. The closest dimensions I could find are this unit. Do you think it would be viable? I'm going to contact some of the suppliers in China to see if we can ensure the on-screen graphics show an Aston Martin (or allows us to change it) etc.

The Width is only 5mm more with the thickness just 2mm. Height is less. I think this could work with the only challenge perhaps the position of the hinges and their guidance points in particular. A test-unit would be the wat to you.

The previous one I linked is primarily for motorcycle use (but I believe I can modify the interface of these devices to show our unique vehicle along with Aston Martin graphics, etc. on either). This would require a little tinkering with the magnetic bracket, but might make things easier, not sure...
It might be time for me to send a few presents to @sdekoning
i replaced mine with Garmin Drivesmart 66. same mounting as sdekoning (i wish i had seen this post prior to conversion as i did not cut speaker holes, etc). reused factory bezels. I have it raise and lower with a button (also turns on/off Garmin)
I just stumbled onto the thread today, but I've been looking at CarPlay/Android Auto dimensions for a couple of weeks. The motorcycle units are the most promising, with systems advertised as 5.98" screens having overall dimensions that might fit, though system depth is often missing.
or its Road Top cousin. Both have 1280x640 pixel screens. I found dimensions on a different site (always dangerous) of 6.5" width x 3.5" height x 1.1" depth, but just now I found dimensions on AliExpress for the
of 176mm/6.9" x 107/4.2 x 17/.67). My sloppy measurement of the OEM nav surround was a bit over 6.625", so the info on AliExpress would seem to rule out the Road Top unit. I've asked for dimensions on the NINETOM unit via Amazon.
Has anyone done careful measurements of the OEM display frame?
ragingfool35 those must be the dimensions of the opening for the screen. While useful, I was hoping to get measurements of the area behind that opening. I.e. what is the largest CarPlay/Android Auto housing that could be fit into the stock flip-up display mechanism.
the glass screen is encased in metal. this then bolts onto the frame. the dimensions above are for that.
its a 7 minute job to pop the waterfall out and unbolt the 4 screws to remove this if you want to measure everything
I started my “cheapskate” conversion to the Garmin Drivesmart 66 before stumbling across this thread. the end result looks like this:
I pulled the old display unit entirely and fashioned a leather liner for the exposed area. It’s not beautiful but it’s not any uglier than the original hunk of plastic from the factory. The unit easily flips up and down manually with no issues. I’ll have to decide whether I’d rather hollow out the original unit and stick the Garmin in it. One advantage of the current set up is I can dismount the Garmin and carry it with me. Also I have easy access to the buttons and parts on the rear. Anyway, one more way to skin the cat.
