School bus damaged right rear quater panel -- 2012 V12V

Yay.

I'm in NC. Is there an authorized AM body shop in NC? Foreign Cars Italia referred me to someone in High Point (I'm in Raleigh) and they are NOT AM certified.

I'm guessing the upper right right rear quarter needs to be replaced which I suspect is not cheap.

Thoughts/recommendations?

Anyone make a diminished value claim on a V12V? This car didn't have a scratch on it until now.

So sorry for the misfortune. I hope you are successful with your DV claim. Such a bummer, wow...

Sorry to hear about this... it's going to be ugly. Don't know which shops are authorized down there, but here's some info on DV claims. I went through one a long while back.

Thanks.

Well, wow. I just talked to one AM dealer and off the cuff he said for this car (no 9 of the "final 40" in the US, matte black) the difference in damage and no damage was basically the difference between a sale and no sale. He said he'd guess I'd need to discount the car $30-40k to get it sold after this hit. Holy moly.

Geez. Sorry for inconvenience. Hopefully the school bus drivers insurance will be reasonable. When there is this much money involved, you might need to get a lawyer involved? Don't lawyers love this stuff?
Could you post some pictures of the damage?

Wow, that hurts. Document that value reduction, and get other dealerships to give you theirs as well. Use that to support your diminished value claim. How it plays out depends on the laws in your state, all states are different. Insurance will offer you a FRACTION of what the DV actually is. Do NOT accept it. You'll have to lawyer up and sue the driver. The driver's insurance company will defend them, and then they'll pay out the claim per court decision/settlement/etc.

Sorry to hear Jeff. Caliber Collision in Charlotte is Aston certified. They are down the street from FCI Charlotte. Contact Joe Buchman at 704-523-4903.

Hedged, thank you! Much appreciated. There is a Caliber here in Raleigh but no certification.

Telum, for better or for worse, I am an attorney...lol...and you are correct on the DV claim. NC has a statutory shortcut procedure for trying to resolve them (each side gets an appraiser and if they can't agree, they collectively choose a third as umpire to resolve the dispute). We'll see how it goes.

Thanks guys. Been depressed all day. Car was flawless.

Really sorry to hear it, Jeff. If you didn't see it, Deckman started another thread:

Well, it gets better and better. Damage is pretty light, the upper right rear quarter panel has an area about 24" x 6" where it is mangled pretty good and paint is off down to the metal. Lower has a smaller area, the same.

Just talked to AM North America. That upper panel is structural and requires an "A" level AM certified body shop. Caliber is only "B." So, the car has to go to Georgia to get fixed.

Even better, there is no way to blend matte paint. So, the whole car gets a respray. Maybe that's a silver lining I suppose.

This will be months and tens of thousands of dollars.

Sorry to hear this happened...

If it's structural, technically the car can be deem "totaled", right?

No, in my experience totalled is when the value to repair exceeds the value of the car.

Ouch sorry to hear. Can you go after them with a loss of use claim? With the amount of time it will take to repair, the DV claim + loss of use might be a good 50% + value of the car

Car is probably worth 110-120k before the wreck.

I owe 70k on it. Payment is $1400/month.

Say it is down for 3 months. THat's $4200.

Shipping the car to and from Atlanta: $1000.

Insurance: $400

DV: THe big question. Say $30k.

REpair: Say $40k

Total claim: That's coming pretty close to $80k claim.

Hedged, just an FYI. Caliber in Charlotte is "B" certified. They can do bumpers and things. Nothing with panels.

Car has to go to Atlanta. Yay.
