NEW Vantage Unveiled
One other thing that annoys the **** out of me: I make fun of the Mercedes that have the grill badge AND the hood ornament. If you can see one, you can see the other. So why, oh why, does the Vantage have "ASTON MARTIN" under the Aston Martin badge? The badge has the name.
I'll never forget the first time I saw a first gen V8V in the flesh. A friend of mine and I had left the bar and decided to stop at the P-car dealership and check out their inventory. Just as we hopped into the Porsche corral, we came across a V8V. We must've spent 30 minutes talking about the lines, circling it, drinking in the shape. The greatest thing the V8V was able to achieve was perfection from every angle. No matter where you stand, no matter where you position yourself, the Aston Martin V8V of yore is an uncompromising work of art in every exterior visual facet. I don't think we ever even looked at a Porsche at the dealership that night. The Vantage, an underdog amongst a hundred rivals, had won our undivided attention.
After the unveil of this new model, Aston Martin will now have my business, as I've just purchased a used three pedal V8V. I'll be needing some factory parts down the line, I'm sure.

I didn't like it when Jaguar put their script under the leaper... If you don't know that is a Jag, you don't care or it doesn't mean anything as it is
The Aston Martin Vantage Is A Bittersweet Revolution I Can't Love
Aston Martin's old Vantage had styling so pretty that you'd chew your own arm off just to put one on your drive, but I'm just not finding the same inspiration in its replacement

I guess I'm glad I don't love the new Vantage at first sight because it's not an option for me financially (so I'm told...)
I do appreciate the technical updates for the new generation.
The new styling definitely has its subjective pros / cons but will likely grow on us.
When they launch a manual and there are ways to improve the sound, enthusiasts will rejoice.

I just don't get it
The $150K is no options - I was told the typical would be $180K - that's $60K more than a V12S with low miles and likely still under warranty, can extend the warranty to be the same as a new 2018 Vantage still be $50K less, with carbon brakes, possibly the B&O Stereo upgrade, electronic shock setting like the new Vantage - a whole lot more impressive engine bay - an engine that sounds $100K better with more HP but slightly less torque, and an involving automated manual that's much better than the V8 ASM and certainly more involving than the 8 speed automatic. Will the exterior grow on us... possibly - especially when aftermarket or Aston comes up with alternate front fascia as they have in the past, or AMR possibly offer upgrades, but the interior is wayyy butt ugly - hideous. Watching CARS.com, last week there were 33 V12S's available - today 29 - that's a 10% drop since the introduction of the new Vantage. I'll bet in a few weeks that number will drop. Not tracking V8's, but interested in seeing the value of my V12S in the future. All I can say, especially with that terrible interior, the DB11 is looking better and better - but I'm stopping at the V12S.
Why, thank you!
And major thanks to you and everyone else who spends time here trying to diagnose, share, and add wealth of knowledge to this site. I've learned a ton.
Carrying on, I agree with what's being said. Although I ponder the validity of it being considered "timeless" like the outgoing model, I'm sure the shape will look better with time. And I'm curious if AM is setting the price high to offset the questionably inevitable future deep discounting they're known for, Stateside. It's gone on for so long now, it's likely expected from their new car buying clientele at this point.

Looking at it a bit more I have these observations. For the good, I do like the rear of the car. That's about it. The wheels and tires seem too big, but I couldn't be sure of that until I see one in person. No more need to mention the grille. I dislike quite a bit the side vent as opposed to the previous side strake. I know they need to remove heat from the engine bay with turbos, but there should be a better looking way to do it.
The interior is just yuck. One of the things that drew me to the previous V8V was it's interior and the dash. It wasn't heavy with tech and looked absolutely one of a kind. This interior seems it could be in any Mercedes or Lexus. Why do the HVAC vents have to be the defining design element? Bad decision that looks like it will be in all the new Aston's. Just a total turn off. I like the seats at least.
I'm sure it will out drive the older model, but if we wanted the best performing cars (and drivable) we'd all be in Porsche's, right?
