Changing the battery concerns
Changing the battery concerns
This Spring I plan on changing the 4 year old battery in my 09 Vantage roadster. It works fine now but I want to have a fresh battery in the car to avoid those potential weak battery problems that I hear about. I am concerned that if there is no power connected during the changeover, the car may lose its 'memory' for windows, convertible top, O2 sensors, etc.
I plan on doing the changeover myself. However, before disconnecting the battery cables should I connect a battery tender in the boot or attach jumper cables from another battery to the engine compartment battery posts so the car will always have some power connected to it during the changeover?

Some battery “ tenders” have a setting the supplies current to the car while the battery is disconnected.
I like the idea of battery cables from another car or battery to supply current during the change over. If you use this method be aware that when you remove the battery cables from the defective battery they are still live. You must insulate the positive lead from the body.

Good info for the DIY battery replacement guys.
At the risk of sounding like a jerk I can attest that, after changing the battery myself TWICE in the 7 years I've owned my DBS, there is nothing at all to be concerned with. And I'd bet anything that no Aston dealer runs jumpers to a car when changing a battery. It's just a car, not a volatile piece of scientific test equipment.
Just as a side note, my car is park about 5-6 months of the year and the battery is disconnected for that period. Yes you will have to reset a few things like maybe the seat, windows, mirrors and radio stations and don't forget my car is MY09 so the misfire calibration. Like MikeD said above, just a car after all.

great info. .thanks.. only took 35 mins, but it seemed a lot longer. i lost count of how many swear words i used. the side panel removal was not clear. couldnt find any bolts or screws, so just left it in place and worked the front battery clamps off to the side and out, everything else was straight forward.
As far as I know you will loose the misfire correction parameters on the V8. To get your car to relearn them the AMDS is needed to initiate it.
Alternativly you can get your friendly one to make a backup and reload it after changing the battery. This means in both options you have to see AM.
Connect a 12v source while you are swapping the batteries and you avoid this hazzle.
