Severe Engine Knocking - V8V
Severe Engine Knocking - V8V
Well after finally getting the car delivered she made it a whopping 30 miles before I had to call a tow truck. Was cruising down the highway then got off and stopped at a light at the end of the off-ramp. As I pulled away from the light and made a left I heard a loud ticking/knocking noise. At first I thought I had run over something that was stuck in the wheel well and was slapping against the fender liner but immediately realized the tempo correlated with rpm's. Pulled over and checked everything out with no apparent issues (no fluids, odd smells, or CEL's, etc). Started it back up and drove another 100 yards as it wasn't as loud as the initial few seconds but it got progressively louder to the point I was concerned running it might be causing further damage to the motor so I called a tow truck to get it home. Had it towed to the closest dealer (which is over an hour away) this afternoon... hope to have a diagnosis tomorrow. Still can’t believe it and am so damn disappointed.
Anybody heard of something like this happening with this car? Everything I've heard about the 4.7 is how it's fairly bulletproof?

No, I stupidly did not check the oil level. Felt as if it was running normal, but admittedly I didn't give it much of ANY throttle once I released it was knocking so couldn't say for sure.
It's a 2011 with 38k miles
Your experience here would indicate that the seller knew about the issue. I'd get a diagnosis and start knocking on the door.

If you bought it from a dealer, they should either take it back or repair it - had a lemon 928 used delivered from Florida, went after them with every agency that regulates dealers and also went after their bond - within a few weeks I got my money back - a painful experience. Had I bought from an individual I'd have been screwed. The 4.7 is bullet proof assuming the previous owner maintained the car properly and it was not beat to hell driving it. A reason to get Aston Martin Certified with a 1 year warranty - you pay more but assured (somewhat) of no nightmares.
Aston Martin dealer confirmed its 99% a spun bearing. The dealer I bought it from is refusing to comply with any reasonable solutions... speaking with attorneys on the best course of action now.

Horrible mess for a new owner, unfortunately a new engine is $$$ with that being said. There absolutely is a recourse for a failed major component on an automobile purchase in the short amount of time you purchased it. Lawyer should make it happen, although it could take some time. Best of luck and don't let this keep you from getting an incredible car.

best thing is get it repaired then you have a full ticket expense you can present to the dealer with the option to settle or litigate.
you will also feel better once your driving it and your enjoying it, pity about this and so soon after taking ownership.
you may wish to replace the thermostat and upgrade the belt pulley to the new spec while your at it, then you have a bullet proof car for years of enjoyment
Aston Martin Dealer is estimating a best case scenario of $8k to replace all 8 connecting rod bearings (might as well do all 8 while they're in there... Worst case it needs a new motor (unlikely) at around $28k.
The dealer that sold me the car is not cooperating and after speaking with a couple attorneys they said filing a law suit will likely take 9+ months with the covid issue clogging up the courts and may very well end up costing me the better part of that same 8 grand. What a nightmare. Any suggestions are welcome!

If local dealer, you might want to try contacting state regulating agency for car dealers. In lieu of that, contacting the local TV station and telling them how the dealer sold you junk and is refusing to back it up. Or try social media to create a local storm. Where are you located?
You have to try and fix it regardless, document everything in detail date time and who you spoke with. And at least do a small claims yourself. $5k limit in most places. Could offset something. Judges like to favor plaintiff's in car repair cases.
I hate to say this but One doesn't just replace the conn rods if a bearing is spun. I am afraid you are looking at a complete rebuild. You can look at pictures of my v12 rebuild on another thread if you want to see what the internals look like after a bearing is spun.
