V8V randomly shutting off HELP

Having issues with my 06 V8 Vantage and hoped someone could help... For the last month when I drive the car it will suddenly and unexpectedly just shut off. The motor stops, it throws all the standard codes for an engine stall: Fuel System check, Emissions systems check, and Engine stall all appear on the information window. It does this sitting still at idle, on the freeway, on the gas, off the gas whenever it wants to. It's doing this about every 50 miles driven. I am always able to immediately roll the key back and restart the car and it drives fine. There are no other mechanical issues or noises or anything happening. When the car drives it perfect and solid till its suddenly not. It's like the car needs rebooted and it's good to go immediately. IT also doesn't appear to be heat related or after warm up... just random. It's not like bumps in the road are doing this either as it has done it even sitting idle in a parking spot a couple times. Any ideas?

There’s a thread on here somewhere and I think it’s also on Redpants website about a fuel vapor hose in the fuel tank that comes off and raw fuel is drawn into it which stalls the engine . It’s an easy check and fix if that https://www.redpants.lol/engine-diy

A long time ago I had this problem on a TR3. Drove me crazy. Turns out some one (a kid perhaps) had inserted a piece of wood into the gas tank. It would randomly float over the fuel pickup and stall the car.
Check the codes with a good code reader. If fuel starvation is the reason, as noted prior, start with the fuel tank.

Care to post some codes? Any history of recent repairs, car was stored for 2 years. Fresh battery? Every clue helps solve issues most of the time.

hi. Did you find the route of the issue. Was it a cam sensor.

Was reading another thread regarding this issue, that some people did a software update. The update seem to correct the problem. Having the same issue when slowing down. Car drops below a certain RPM and shuts off. Just picked up mine. 2016 manual with 8k miles. I thought it may have been the throttle body and had it looked at. Shop said it looked like new. Did some research and have concluded that the software update is the next step.

This was happening to me mostly when I was coasting down to a stop at a light, it happen about a handful of time. I upgraded the CAT to 200 Cell and install the VelocityAP Tune and since then it never happen again, so my guess is the software fixed the issue and as a bonus with CATs and software you get a HP boost. And 2 yrs ago I upgraded the clutch to a twin plate and they updated the software and raised the idle RPM some as the new clutch/flywheel are much lighter and from what I heard this needed to be done when a twin plate clutch is installed.

Shutting off.

That’s very interesting about changing the cat. My V8V stopped doing this straight after I upgraded to a quick silver sports exhaust system. Also my local service centre (Aston service Dorset). Plugged it into their new diagnostic unit to test the new unit. I think it upgraded my software. And again like yourself I’m upgrading to light fly wheel twin clutch. Appleby own.a lot less than Astons clutch kit. Infact works out cheaper than Astons standard clutch kit.

I was the one with the consistent stall that took 4 software flashes from Gaydon to fix after dealing with it for almost 3 years. I had a VAP clutch and a Quicksiver installed and neither of them did a thing. In fact in sorting out the problem the factory engineers said the clutch could be the problem and put in a factory clutch as a baseline, which we knew was going to do nothing. Stalled the day after I got it back. Ends up some parts don't play well with others, the first thing they do is a parts scan which tells them every part you have in the car and then try to figure out what in the software isn't allowing one to play well with another.

Irish said they had some ideas of how to solve it but but never heard any more about it.

Unfortunately you have something completely different. All the "stall" cars stalled the same way. Off gas, engine rolling down to idle, and wouldn't stop at idle, or sitting at idle at a light it would just die. Never stalled under power. I hope you can figure that out because it is no fun and can be very dangerous in many circumstances.

Having exactly the same problem as @HabitualOffender - the dealer did a clutch metrics flash and it seems to have fixed it for months but the day before I put the car into storage I had another stall.

VAP clutch is when it started, all else is stock. Also have the tune but had the tune for 2 years before the clutch with no issues.

Mine stalled right off the truck completely stock, before the clutch, after they changed it back to stock, nothing was fixing that car except a new software flash from Gaydon to correct whatever part wasn't playing well with another.

My car never stalled until last year (I've had the car from new). It happened twice, each after a long coast down to a stop. Restarted immediately. Went to the dealer who did a scan and found that the memory was gone (I think it involved recognizing a specific point on the flywheel -- HO would know). They told me to do the reset procedure which, I believe, was doing 5 fully off-the-throttle coast-downs on a straight road in 6th gear from 70 - 30 mph. Went back to the dealer, scan showed the memory was reset. Hasn't stalled since.

Misfire correction factors.

Btw I got home at 10, they had more snow down here than up there. Went straight to Enterprise to turn the car in and there's an inch on the Mako and my door is frozen shut. I even left the window cracked so the glass is already clear of the molding but it's frozen to the weather stripping. It's going to be 39* tomorrow, I hope there's good sun on that side of the building!
