Trouble Linking Homelink to LIftmaster Garage opener with security + 2.0

I am trying to link the Homelink buttons on my 2013 Vantage mirror to my garage doors. I have 2 old openers that have synced up with no problem, so I know the unit is working. I have a newer Liftmaster opener that uses Security+ 2.0 (with rolling codes). I went through the instructions that require first syncing to the remote and then to the rolling codes by pressing the yellow learn button on the garage unit. I cannot get the mirror button to work.

Reading elsewhere I found that earlier Homelinks are not compatible with Security+ 2.0 and require a Homelink Repeater to make it work. Does anyone have a 2013 or earlier AM that works with Security 2.0? My understanding is that the early Homelinks work with Security+ (1.0?), but when Liftmaster went to version 2.0 the frequency changed, hence the need for the repeater. At some point Homelink also upgraded and will work with the new version of Security+ 2.0.

Before getting the repeater I want to make sure I need it versus not programming the button correctly.

Thanks for the help.

Steven

I had the same issue syncing the Homelink buttons in my 2012 Vantage with new Liftmaster garage openers. The repeater solved this problem.

I needed the homelink extender also known as a compatibility bridge for my 2007. You pair the bridge to your door opener and use a special remote that comes with the kit to program to the homelink buttons on the mirror. If you have a garage door opener with a yellow antenna wire, you probably need the bridge. The US homelink mirror is the same part number from 2004-2016.

100% you need the repeater for your issue. It used to be you could call the 800# of the opener company and they would send you one no charge if you had recently purchased the opener. Newer cars don't have home link as most new openers have wifi and an app on your phone. Just got a new 2021 RR and it has everything but a UGDO....

I gave up on using Homelink with my Aston's. Works, doesn't work... Had to keep the remote in the car just as a back up. Screw it; I'll just use the remote and not worry.

Thank you all for confirming I need the repeater/bridge. It is not expensive but I hate buying something I do not need, it then sits on a shelf forever gathering dust.

i use nexx garage... wifi app that is tied to my Alexa gizmo in my Aston. i can use the nexx app, use Alexa on my phone or my Alexa gizmo in the Aston.

works great, monitors if garage is open, can close or open automatically, geofence, e.t.c...

I think I paid about $80 for it.

still keep a back up remote but haven't needed it in years

Incredible, I just went to Nexx and the unit is $60 right now. Added to the cart and spring 25% off and free shipping + no tax.

Thanks MRCW for the idea. For $45 I should have gotten a few more for gifts!

I'll get that for my other garage door... thanks!

been using it flawlessly now for a couple years... have the unit with wired sensor (at the time that's all they had)

can close or open door from anywhere. With my remote camera, i can ask delivery to drop packages inside the garage all remote and in reall time.

Good idea, but after going to the Nexx website it looks like Nexx Garage is also not compatible with LIftmaster Security+ 2.0 without a bridge.
