Ctek
I have the big Ctek Multi but I don't use it as a trickle charger. I use it to charge old/dead batteries in my classic cars. I'd never leave it unattended for very long. Even the best chargers will overheat or go into an error mode and overcharge a battery and cause fires. If you want something safe you can hookup and forget, I would always recommend the lowest power rated ones like the CTEK US 0.8 [unlink]https://smartercharger.com/collections/vehicle/products/ctek-us-0-8[/unlink]

I have a couple of the CTEK - 40-206 MXS 5.0 chargers for our 2007 V8V and for the 911. Have used them for the past 4 years with no issues. The cars stay plugged in all the time when parked. For the Aston I use the power port in the trunk. The port fitting is a little loose so you need to ensure it is making contact. I'm able to close the trunk lid and it doesn't crush the cord.

However I have proven a couple of times they do not travel well when you leave them plugged in and drive away. After 5 or 6 miles at highway speeds, trailing behind the car, they do not seem to work for some reason...
. The latest replacement arrives today.

I also use the lighter in the trunk for charging with a battery tender. I close the trunk but don't click it shut...that way I get a warning light that my trunk is open before I can pull away without disconnecting. It's saved me a few times

With your newly installed exhaust system (read LOUD) why don’t you just pump the accelerator a few times before you back out of the garage. The noise alone will most likely unplug your charger automatically and probably blow off any dirt or bugs at the same time. It’s a win win situation!

Tdibs - thanks for that idea. Sometimes the simple solutions are the best
I now keep an orange microfiber towel in the trunk. When I plug the car in, put the towel on my windshield so I know to unplug it before leaving.
