Question on V8 vantage power delivery under 3500 rpm
Hi all. I am looking to purchase one of these magnificent machines and test drove a manual transmission 2006 v8 vantage for the first time today. Loved the visual, the sound, and the quality of the materials. But what I did find lacking was the amount of power off the line under 3500 rpm or so. Is that a normal characteristic of the v8 vantage power band? The car is supposed to have the AMR power pack and I think a tubi exhaust. I am definitely not used to the counterclockwise tachometer and that will take time to get used to. Before I purchase the car, I want to make sure that is a normal characteristic and not a sign of some issue. Thanks in advance.
Yep it's normal. The 1st gear is on the tall side, the cams are big, and the car is heavy, so you don't get a whole lot of grunt off the line. It feels close to an Infiniti G35 until you rev it out a bit more. The 4.7 is a little stronger but it still gives its best at high rpm. A tune and dual plate clutch + lwfw kit can probably make it feel a teeny bit quicker off the line.

the throttle response is abysmal on the early vantages. both on and off throttle IMO. (i've got one) and in reverse it's even worse. i don't race around much, so it's not an annoyance for me.
Thanks for the responses. Looks like I am going to get this v8 vantage. It has the aston Martin power upgrade kit and a tubi exhaust. Timing gasket replaced last year. And only about 5k miles on the car. I ll drive it a bit and get used to it. Then decide what next steps if any (maybe the dual clutch and/or headers).
I find I got used to just stepping harder and faster on the pedal, but a tune that changes the mapping would make it feel more sporty for sure.
thanks...
always wondered why there wasn't a readily available remapping for the pedal. usually such things are relatively accessible to those that do aftermarket re-programming, etc...
