AMOC membership worth it?

Anyone else on here a member of https://www.amoc.org/? Is access to the community, benefits, etc. worthwhile for $130-140/year?

A long time ago when I used to own a couple of BMWs, I used to be in BMWCCA and found it to be a good group, with some members-only track days, autocross events, etc. Curious what the word is on AMOC, particularly in the US (and west coast/SoCal specifically).

Similar to BMWCCA, but smaller and maybe a little more personal. Depends on your locale. Our chapter has stuff nearly month sometimes more. Last couple of seasons have been challenging for any club.

I have been a member since January of this year. I am so disappointed with the internal issues the club has had (Organizational/ Leadership Issues) and lack of events that I have decided to cancel my membership. I really thought it would be a great way to meet other AM owners and enjoy driving my AM with others but most of the events have been cancelled for a variety of reasons. It may be a regional thing, as I live in Kansas, but I think the AMOC is more suited for the UK. The west coast does appear to have more owners, but as I said, most events have been cancelled. I see that the UK has far more events than here in the USA.

I joined AMOC in February 2021, after purchasing my 2002 DB7. With everything impacted by COVID, I joined mostly to learn more about AM/DB7 and for access to the online Forum.
While the Forum is a little clunky to search on, there's lots of good information that I've found helpful as a first-time AM owner, and about the DB7 in particular. The magazine and Quarterly News are interesting, but U.K. centric.
Like most car clubs (I belong to the national Alfa and Fiat Clubs) events have been slow this year, but picking up. My intention is to go to the events held in my region, and make a decision on continuing membership in 2023. Its hard for me to judge the value of AMOC at this point.
No regrets on joining, and enjoying it so far with the limitations.
Steve

Considering joining, would be cool if they did something for formula 1 events.

Appreciate the input everyone. Sounds like it might be a "try it and see" situation for me. I might hold out a bit longer given the pandemic and look into it for next year, since I'm expecting to be pretty busy through the end of the year anyway.

Start up a conversation with the regional coordinator in your AMOC region and see what they have going on this season and what they've had going on, on previous years. Will give you an idea if it's worth joining. If you travel internationally, you may be able to connect with members from other regions for a few drinks or what-not.

I live in Missouri and was thinking about joining too, but it seems our "Midwest" branch is centered in Chicago, which is a bit of a hoof for me, and even more for you. I feel like unless the club has a very active online presence and/or a great publication, that the only other reason to belong is events, and I don't see me dragging myself to Chicago on any kind of a regular basis to attend any of the events. So, the ROI seems small for the price.

Note however, that "lack of events" might be a COVID thing. I was a member of the local Porsche club and I gave that up because they were so conservative during COVID that they even cancelled drives where we were all in our cars by ourselves. What a crock. There's nothing more "socially distant" than being in your own car.

I thought about joining the Chicago club but it is 3 hours away for me. In my town there are maybe 5 owners.

I joined AMOC a few months ago. It looks like they have a lot of drama going on in the Club on the UK side. I received a mailer from the Club recently asking if the North American branch should split off and create its own branch as the majority of the dues go back to the UK. (I voted yes).

I also belong to the Porsche and BMW clubs and find those other clubs (particularly BMW) have many more events and are much more active. I'm going to my 1st AMOC event in September.

That shouldn’t surprise anybody. The larger the member base the more events you get. You can’t even begin to compare the number of BMW vs AM members in the USA. Even if AMOC NA splits off from the UK, it won’t mean any more events because of numbers and distance.
