What's Going On??? 05 DB9

The Car has been idle the last 4 weeks or so in the garage. Battery tender 100%. I was loading for a 2 hour trip for a family gathering and head back the next day. I get in and turn the key. Power, Beauty, Soul, system check. All good. The dash was ready. Hit the start button and everting went blank immediately. I'm freaking out.

I get everything out of the DB9 into another. I go to plug the tender in and the trunk was locked. All efforts to unlock the trunk failed. I go the the front and connect another tender until I got back. 30 minute late start.

I get back this morning. The tender light was green and the trunk was unlocked. This time when I turned the key, nothing happened. The clock is keeping time and the interior lights are dim.

Did I just experience an unannounced catastrophic battery failure? There have been no alarms, codes shown or any other alerts.

Battery tenders can only do so much. 1 bad battery cell can cause issues and the tender will read good. You may have 12 volts but little to no amperage.
What type of battery is in there and how old is it? They don't seem to last like they have in the past. 4 year average, and I believe AGM ones the be less. They will give no warning and be dead the next day.

The battery is 4 years 7 months old. My maintenance log does not tell the type. I'll fix that moving forward. I believe I replaced with the OEM. It's not AGM. I had it at the dealer in Charlotte for service 3 months ago. One item on the checklist is the battery. It checked good then.

What's your guess with the trunk locking/unlocking?

Battery replacement first, then see if it's an issue.

Yep- Don't second guess a 4 + year old battery. They have been known to fail without warning. When you replace it double check all of your grounding points. You may need to do some relearning too?

I had a battery maintainer go bad and killed the battery. As others have said, replace battery and go from there

I suspect the battery as well. Try connecting a starter pack under the bonnet: if that does the trick you know its battery change-out time.

The car was picked up yesterday and delivered to Aston Martin Charlotte today. Scott MacDonald is the service manager and has worked me in the past. Yes, the battery failed.

I called a buddy who purchased a 2006 DB9 last year. I remember he told me he has some service records on the car. His battery was replaced in March 2016. I told him he is way past borrowed time. Lesson learned. Replace the battery every 4 tears.
