Does your exhaust add power ? Good X- Flow read
After reading this thread, I'm more content than ever that I had a custom high flow Europipe built, with 997 RSR cats. It would be very interesting to see some of the other manufacturers provide back presssure data so I could compare it with the data I was given for my exhaust.

Truth! lol What people don't realize is Markski sells these for less than the competitors. Even the AMS exhaust compared to was hundreds higher. Not sure why everyone is blowing this up.
I am happy with my purchase and know Markski well enough that he will not put an inferior part on his items. If he does, he eats it. That is not a winning proposition unless he is confident in the part. I have had mine for 3 years with zero issues and none expected. Regardless of the parts uses, he stands behind them.
I am a happy customer and wouldn't hesitate to buy another!

Holy chit! I just read through this thread and I might say one of the most entertaining to date since I've been a 6 spd member. I currently am running an AR Design 3"xflow exhaust and although I love how it sounds its probably not the most efficient system for our cars. It does feel better (butt dyno) than my old Orton exhaust that I believe is 2.75" non xflow. But in all honesty I think that Protos exhaust is probably one of the best designs I've seen to date for power just wish there were some better sound clips out there on it. Is anyone on here running his exhaust and have any input on it?
So what is the difference between the HJS cats and the cats Markski uses other than about $300 and country of origin. If both are 100 cells per square inch then they should both flow similarly. If both are keeping the CEL off then both should be doing their job of burning off hydrocarbons. I haven't read a single complaint about Markskis cats other than from the AMS blog post. So one out of many isn't bad since even if every party did everything right with installation and tuning you can still expect some defective parts no matter how much the initial cost. My guess is where you will see the difference is in the longevity of the part. The HJS's will probably be good for 100k miles. On the other hand it will take many of us on this board 40 years to rack up that many miles on the exhaust. If the HJS stands up to the abuse from very high horsepower cars better then that is probably also not a huge concern since how many of the big dogs even run cats? So, is there something I'm not accounting for here?

Yes,there are also different quality cats out there...I would hope to believe that who ever makes an exhaust for our cars does use a higher quality cat with the prices we pay..My Milltek uses 100 HJS cats rated at 350 hp each..
There are also different flow ratings on any cats ,even being the same cell count..Thats if some one did take the time to flow them..Look up HJS ,since they make so many different versions, and you will see sizes and HP ratings..

That's the bottom line. The quality of the cat is in the material and the construction of the cat. The material MIGHT be OK, but if it became unbonded from the can, construction is crap...if the cat clogs too easy or crumbles too easy..material is crap.
It seems this is the first time that this has happened to Mark, that anyone here has heard of. I'm sure he will no longer use this cat, and find a more cost effective solution.

the only good point in your lenghty post. good cars cost money, good gas costs money and good cat costs money. if a Hyundai Genesis was just as good as a 911, no one would buy a 911. AND guess what its not as good even if 100 people scream it is. WHY bother? there is no magic. If someone was building a budget 300-400$ exhaust for a car thats where something like that belongs.

Bad exhaust request from customer did not match power the car was making along with a rich tune = cat destruction. Nothing wrong with the cat, just bad application.
Read the recent Europipe thread where same thing happened only in a normal situation.
Beating a dead horse here IMO.
One is a cheap, poor quality unit offered alongside cherry bomb mufflers in a meineke catalogue and the other is a quality unit that doesnt fall apart and is used in most high end exhaust sytems around the world.
One has a website with TONS of technical specs, materials used, flow specs .... http://www.hjs.com
Other website barely has any info on it
Def getting tired of repeating same thing with ppl arguing for sake of arguing. I think its enough on this topic and I hope Mark will use better quality cats in future.
