Does your exhaust add power ? Good X- Flow read
Markski already addresses this in post #9:
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ml#post3817831
Bad exhaust request from customer did not match power the car was making along with a rich tune = cat destruction. Nothing wrong with the cat, just bad application.
Read the recent Europipe thread where same thing happened only in a normal situation.
Beating a dead horse here IMO.

the only good point in your lenghty post. good cars cost money, good gas costs money and good cat costs money. if a Hyundai Genesis was just as good as a 911, no one would buy a 911. AND guess what its not as good even if 100 people scream it is. WHY bother? there is no magic. If someone was building a budget 300-400$ exhaust for a car thats where something like that belongs.

Heck i would have just done a Modified stock exhaust or left it alone.
That's the bottom line. The quality of the cat is in the material and the construction of the cat. The material MIGHT be OK, but if it became unbonded from the can, construction is crap...if the cat clogs too easy or crumbles too easy..material is crap.
It seems this is the first time that this has happened to Mark, that anyone here has heard of. I'm sure he will no longer use this cat, and find a more cost effective solution.

One is a cheap, poor quality unit offered alongside cherry bomb mufflers in a meineke catalogue and the other is a quality unit that doesnt fall apart and is used in most high end exhaust sytems around the world.
One has a website with TONS of technical specs, materials used, flow specs .... http://www.hjs.com
Other website barely has any info on it

Back on the topix of X's,collectors that is, and flowing..
As we all know there are several people/vendors that make a similar looking X- merge collector, how its welded together and how they merge..
BUT if you notice in the center/middle,up and down meeting area of those ,where they come together,,it seems that the volume of that merge varies from a diameter equal to one of the pipes or up to both of them...
Any thoughts OR Testing on how each came up with that size they used to get the most power or the sound or to have drone at a minimal??
I believe there would be alot of restriction at that merge point,so that would be a critical area for the space/volume...
